as for 4agze great swap up there with best swaps the only down side i can see is for the same money and very similar work you can put a sr20det and have an extra 100hp that can be turned on and off through waste gate etc..down side to sr20det is extra weight over front so if your not going with lift and diff up grade bigger wheels etc maybe the 4agze maybe better

How far into the job are you? We have an SR20DE engined car in the club in Melbourne and it doesn't look like a DET manifold would clear the brake cylinder.
Not being negative - I'm sure there is a way around it, but the extra bulk all around the DET will make fitting the motor a hassle judging by what I have seen in the car here. Intercooling would also have to be an issue.
Also, there were hassles with the radiator being lower than the head - a header tank had to be fitted on the firewall above the head.
I agree with your earlier comments about the manual gearbox, I was more thinking if the last car I had seen which was a 1.0 - pretty sure it didn't clear the 1.0 tunnel. The auto way doesn't clear even a 1.3 tunnel

steve which car are you refering to the ca18det or the one thats getting a 2.7 ltr na
if you are refering to the ca18det in mine it fits tight but all good just enough room for brake master cylinder had to cut out tunnel as mine was 1tr and do a body lift a 1.3 ltr woudn,t need to cut tunnel as for radiator its right behind the grill leaving just enough room for a themo fan, no cluch fan on motor.asnd as for inter cooler i did a top mount i drove the car for like this for just over a year then took it of the road for a new ca18det and hilux diffs as i spun a nt diff of the perches in turn blow the crown wheel and pinion due to no oil left in the and i am over it as a sleeper no its time to play properly OFFROAD yee haa I also brought the suspension out of liams BBM silver sierra to go in it.

the ca throttle body sits level with rocker cover, so its easy to get to, but the sr does sit a lot lower near level with pistons, unless you use a sr from a serena van, then the throttle body is level with crank, and is at the rear of the motor this could be simply plumbed it the cab to a air cleaner under dash n/a only of course.

4ac, 5k, a15, ca20, L16/18/20, 18r, 22r, 3y/4y, there is a few ranging from 1.5ltrs to 2.2 ltrs and there just some of nissan and toyota all of which are very cheap rollin imports do a 4y 2.2ltr brand new crate motor $1000 never being used it has no bolt ons carby starter etc but will go on a hilux gearbox transfer or use a celica gear box and sierra transfer finished less than $2000 in the right hands, and they go great, just a little heavy so diffs, wheels etc... will need upgading to compansate

jock you have to remember that there are a lot of guys that just flog there sierra's, especialy when it comes to bog holes, seeing how fast and how many times they can go through it, over it, under it, what ever, and think there i a datto 1600 rally car driving through the bush trying to get it side ways etc makeing those "early out dated" toyota 3/4/5k and nissan a series motors a good thing very easy to work on very reliable and cheaper than a sierra motor to fix and on that not a good up grade from the k's is the 7k a 1.8ltr push rod motor. very simple torquey motor for a simple fun cheap car i still believe these motors have a place not everyone can work on or wants efi.

have we worked out whot the best motor is as i hurt mine yesterday on the main road run out off oil split a oil line to my gauge so it might be new motor time as i want to put a auto on it so motor gearbox combo and i don't want to go to radical with the conversion

i ran suzuki 550 triple expansion chambers and flatside carbs runnig f1 brand reeds at the time porting and crank timing reved to 7500 with lj 50 gearbox around 120kph flat out but you could hear it 2ks away as i did'nt use mufflers eg motor x style in the 70s wish i had it nowoffroader-rama wrote:on that note i have heard of people using the head and exhaust (expansion chamber) of a suzuki tripple 2 stroke road bike on the 500 and 800cc 2 strockers spose to get huge revs 8000rpm+ dont know power figure but would be better maybe just in higher revs

And to continue "way out of left field" theres lots of really powerful
outboard motors out there, water cooled injected two strokes, so
running them horiz instead of vertically shouldn't be impossible.
They are also compact. And before anyone asks I cant tell you what
gearbox they would mate to -but IMO more practical than a bike engine.[/u]

There was a thread on Pirate about a buggy build using a 280hp outboard.
