Rangie 4 door - 2 door conversion...

Rangie 4 door - 2 door conversion...
I have a 4 door 84 Rangie running a 4.6L rover, zf, lt230, standard diff housings and maxi drive everything.
I want to know how, hard it would be to take the complete drive train from my 4 door and put it all into a 2 door Rangie?
My reasoning is i have always wanted a 2 door and i have banged up the body of the 4 door to the point of needing to replace nearly every panel on the truck so i thought this may be the opportunity to do the conversion.
Any information the compatibility of this conversion or any ideas on the whole thing would be very helpful.
Cheers
Matt

piece of piss, there is a few discrepency's with the rear shocker's, you need to weld on a bracket to suit the 1 shock that faces rearwards, there is also a few things like the front control arm bushes and threads on the brake lines, but all easy to overcome as you'll have all the bits, you'll need to fit your floorpan aswell
Wanted: Car trailer or beaver tail truck, let me know what you got
Yea somewhat, but you'll have to cut up your existing, then make a console, then make a shifter bit..........nairbo wrote:I am thinking of doing the same sort of thing , will a body lift help avoid changing the floorpan ?you'll need to fit your floorpan aswell ?

Is the 2 door body compatible with the 4 door chassis? Do they have the same mounting points etc?Hobie18 wrote:Might be easier to do a body swap providing you have access to the right equipment

hiya, iv been thinking of changing my running gear from my 4 door into and old 2 door as i have also dinged up my panels too
im pretty sure all rangies and series one discos have the same chassis n mounting points for the body
im just wondering if it would take much to tranfer my ZF auto and EFI into a car that had carbies, engineering wise how hard would it be to have it road legal etc...??
i have a 1988 rangie with a 4.6L on microtech, 33 x 10.5 muddies, rear maxi, big springs about 4", but no body lift yet
would it be better if i had 2" springs n 2" body lift? or just leave as is?

Theres nothing wrong with a 2 door off road, just the doors are large so can be quite heavy to open/close depending what sort of slope you are on. You could always just get out through the open window (body size pending of course).
I've only changed to a 4 door in the last couple of years, due to body rust in the 2 door. But I still have the 2 door, would love to do a body swap with it but that'll have to wait. I have the donor car ready waiting - just not sure that i need 2 registered V8's.

Back on topic, can anyone confirm that the 2 door body will mount on a 4 door chassis?matt_w wrote:im pretty sure all rangies and series one discos have the same chassis n mounting points for the body

Yep I can confirm that the 2 door and 4 door bodies up to 1990 will interchange as I've done a coupe of these no problems. There are a couple of subtle differences this is pretty much limited to updates/changes in the running gear (eg fuel tanks, shock mounts, fuel lines etc. Also the 4 door requires 2 brackets welded to the 2 door chassis for the eye-bolts that are attached to the underside of the rear seatbelt brackets from memory.Jam-Pony wrote:Back on topic, can anyone confirm that the 2 door body will mount on a 4 door chassis?matt_w wrote:im pretty sure all rangies and series one discos have the same chassis n mounting points for the body
Oh yeah and remember that the pre 86 radiators mounted to the inner guards where as post 86 was mounted into the chassis cross member too.
