Is gu 2.8 turbo diesel intercooler same as 4.2 turbo diesel

Post by sickgq »

I have a non intercooled 4.2 factory turbo diesel and looking at a intercooler thats fits a 2.8 turbo diesel, Just seeing if they were the same intercoolers on both models or 4.2 one was bigger. Any advice would be appreciated.
Also thinking of putting a wrx top mount intercooler, has any one tried this or know if it would work. if i make bracket up, i thought there would be no reason why not??????????????????

I have 2 mates that own GU's.The 2.8 seem the same size with different piping arrangments, but the late model 4.2IC has no fan, where the 2.8 does! I'm at the monent in the middle of making my own manifold to run a HT18s 2s Twin scroll RX7 Turbo with a top mounted WRX intercooler on my TD4.2. I'm running a 3.0l GU air box, cause I was told they have a less restrictive outlet from the top of air cleaner.Hope I've helped Ya!

Im running a 2.8 one on my TD6.

The differences are the fan which has been mentioned is not std on TD6, and there is a plug on the front of the 2.8 one which is blocked on the TD6 from factory... apart from that we measured it and it appears same..

andrew has hacked the 4.2 one to use the end tanks on a new PWR core...   fawk he is a great bloke /..

Yeah Bruce and here it tis, I'd forgotten you haven't even seen it yet.
You can see the difference on new core versus the old core. The plate on top is for the seal on the bonnet scoop to sit on, the original I/cooler has the seal on both endtanks, I use one endtank and the crossover plate instead.

Awill4x4, Looks great, do you make afew of these or is it just a one off, What would something like this cost, could pick it up from you, i'm just in mooroolbark. Also do you have mounting brackets worked out for fitting or can you use standared bracket made wider. Do i supply you with a standard one to work with???
Thanks Scotty.

Scotty, at the moment it's just a one off. Bruce and I have a spare factory mounting bracket that has to be modified for both mounting the I/cooler and clearance for the intake from the turbo to the I/cooler.
We (read me) have to make new piping from the turbo so I'll probably open up the sizing a bit as I feel the current crossover pipe it a bit constrictive.
