mk alt upgrade on sd33t
you can run a high amp alt. Normal type without the vac lines. But you have to convert the M/C to run different set up then the stock master vac. It has been done on Scouts with the SD33. finding a high amp alt to suit the diesel may be tricky, perhaps use the big v8 diesel alts from chevy, ford or dodge? high mount would also be a good diea to avoid the muck and slop, even fab a small splash guard for it.

I've just finished putting in a new alternator up nice and high, using the aircon bracket to mount it (I kept the old alt to act as the vac pump only) the advantage ive have noticed is that today when i went for a wheel i put it through a nice big mud hole and havent had to come home and rebuild the alternator. Previously I would have needed to come home and rip out the alt and pull it apart to give it a good clean up. The other advantage is that I can use an alt out of an old holden or ford if this one dies and just bang it in as a replacement ($30 to $40 from a wrecker as opposed to the amount they ask for the diesel alt)
