Christmas Tree on my dash! haha help!

Post by driftpig »

Hi guys, i went out the bush on Sunday with my bro in my recently bought 91 hilux.. Had a blast and even had the pleasure of snatching him out of some nice holes...

Anyways, i got mine fairly damp in a good sized hole, took a few goes but finally got through... Once i was out i had a look down and my dash was lit up like a bloddy xmas tree! I had and still have
The Fuel Filter warning light
Battery Warning light
Timing Belt warning light!

Now when i popped the bonnet she was a fair ol sit fight of mud and water, so its all been washed off and cleaned and CRC'd, lights still there though!

Cleared the fuel filter by loosening bottom nipple and priming the fuel through, no water seemed to come out though... Car has done 255,450 kms so T-belt light shouldnt be on from what i can gather. And lastly voltage at battery whilst car is running is at 12.40 roughly..

Any ideas on where i should start looking, i reckon a nice bunch of wires may be covered in shit and not connecting or something, cause the ol girl still runs great!

You have crap in your alternator which is causing it not to charge and also causing all the lights on the dash....Been there done that mud in alternator thing :x :x :x :x :x

Pull it out and apart and give it a good clean and overhaul (if you know how) or just give it to a auto lecky and let them do it.........

Its easy .. stay outa the mud ..

If you bring the revs up a bit does the voltage increase ?

My lux only makes about 12.4 to 12.6 at idle, by about 1700rpm it is making 14.0v with the headlights on low and the fan on full (drops to about 13.5 with the Hi beam and driving lights on)

it was usually just the plug into the back of the alternator for me. Try pulling it out and spray a bit of electrical cleaner in the plug and the alternator and blow it out before going to the trouble of pulling your alt off and apart. Might save yourself a bit of work.

alrighty, update...

I cleaned the FILTHY mud infested plugs, hopped in, key on, battery light and NOTHING else now! No ignition at all, lights are about the only other thing working... so something in ignition is gone.. Is there a fuse for this and if so which one! a=haha, as my fuse box in drivers side kick panel has no cover so i have no idea which fuse is what! haha

Thanks in advance again. Electrical Gremlins are good fun!
