Gday, me and a few mates were thinking of joining the suzuki 4wd club of victoria, i was just wondering if there were any active members on this forum to give me a run down of what goes on. cheers

we have family trips, camping trips, extreme off road trips, learners days, very social, very laid back. meeting is this wednesday 12th nov at AMRA Hall Wills St Glen Iris at 7:30pm, all welcome, christover (editor)

off season once a month, this time of year trips usually twice a month..toolangi, gembrook bunyip, mt disappointment, murrindindee, tallarook, are some of the many favorite forests, but trips go anywhere the leader wants to go. check out our web site and chat group, has pix and vids of past trips, christover

I am a newbie to off road and cruise with greyzook. I have a stock 84 1.0L sierra. Would my rig be able to tag along or would I have to be towed out of every bog hole?

I am saving for mods but it's going to take a while. Keen to see some new terrain in Vic apart from teh Wombat which we are about 10mins form :-)

You'd be amazed what a welded diff will do.

In fact IMO you are probably luckier than me as i joined with an allready modified car and now I am changing everything I spent $$$ on a year ago.

just post it up in the "trips and tracks" section everytime you intend to go etc... that's the easiest way to do it.

We get a wide variety of vehicles on trips, most trips are suitable for standard vehicles, and you'd be surprised just how good a standard sierra is. there is many good mods that dont cost much.
I am on a disability pension, and all my mods need to be cheap.
Best you don't make too many changes till you've got some driving time, then ya can be sure what you want to mod.
We do have trips with a minimum standard(ie lockers tyres etc) but only a few a year.
And we do go to Wombat/Lerdegerg on occassions, too. (my zook was bought from Trentham East)

I'm hard at work trying to fix this so we go out even more often that that... I reckon 3 trips a month

Yeah greyzook and I are looking at lockers very soon. I also need new springs (hence the wanted post) and shocks. Then some MT's would be good but I'm concerned about losing power with bigger tyres as I've only got the 1.0L. Can't afford a hopper gear yet and hoping that there is a way around it.

Sorry hardtop, but if you are running all the 1L running gear (engine, gbox, xfer, diffs etc), then you are already at the lowest of the low that you can get your car to without replacing the x-fer case with a rockhopper.

Chris (Christover) was running a 31" tyre with stock gearing and a 1L, but it definately zapped the power out of his car a fair bit and this forces you to drive obsticles much faster than you would want to.

There's also another 1L i'm aware of (friend of Big Steve's) that is running 32" muds and he also has to drive his car with a definate "crash-bang" approach - not ideal.

My advise to you would be to not touch those tyres until you have a solution for your gearing - because a stock sierra with stock tyres will get further up a track than a stock sierra with bigger tyres that it cannot turn*.

No worries about the meeting - look forward to seeing you at the next one if not before.

or find a 1.3L case and get the 1.3L rockhoppers (better gearing but more cost)

1 option is to have your springs reset to sit higher - no added flex though

Big Steve has been talking about selling his Rockhopper series 1. Perhaps PM him and see what he reckons... now that his car is off the road he may be more willing to part with it
