best motor to putting it into a sierra
i want to know what is the best best motor to putting it into a sierra(to go on the road)
greg wrote:Matt,
What are you going to be doing with this sierra? This will affect what motor you would want.
i.e. if it is for driving just on road, all offroad, rocks, quarter miles, commuting etc...
All of these would affect what you would want to put in your sierra.

I lived & breathed rotaries before heading offroad, that engine would be a nice mix for me.
Sorry, stupid q, would that be fuel injected? or would it still have the same issues on side angles that carbies do?
p.s. love the sig
edit: fixed the quotes

Stick a standard 1.3 in and spend the rest on a hopper and lockers

No side angle worries, its injected, the pic is just of a rotary engine, not the 12a turbo though

Sorry matt, but if that 3000 is fixed and solid, i don't think you will be able to get a lot of good options in there. Though a few people here will suggest that there are some good Toyota options available - but i don't know much about those.
I would suggest that you check out going for something like a Vitara 1.6L EFI - but the motor along will cost up to 2,500 (with loom and computer), so you would easily exceed your 3K budget once you try to install it.

Hoppers start at about 850 plus installation.

Not sure about pricing of a 1.3, but a fellow down here in melbourne is trying to sell one... cruise to here:

That is very cheap, and assuming that the engine is in good nick it could be a great start, but again, you are going to have a heap of work to do and i just don't see 3K in totoal being even close to achievable - especially if you are also planning on putting a hopper in there.

If its only pushin stockies then to the 1.6 convert I think, that way you lay the basis to mod from. IMO
P.S. Take your caps lock off

I thinking that it is efi, in which case the answer would be:
1. put the engine in (may require custom engine mounts
2. adapt the motor to the sierra gear box (only works if you have a 1.3, otherwise you need a 1.3 sierra gbox, or need to think about moving the stock x-fer case back further and hooking it up with twin cases )
3. put the computer somewhere
4. wiring - have to hook up the computer and engine to the existing sierra loom. (this includes some fancy dash board wiring too)
5. fuel tank - you'll need to get the EFI fuel tank out of the vitara and mount it somewhere. also need to replace your fuel lines with high pressure in areas.
6. if your sierra doesn't have a body lift, it may need some work to make the engine fit under your bonnet
7. i think there is some work to do to the sump to make sure it clears the diff at full compression - but i'm not 100% sure about that.
Well there's a start at least... i'm sure others can tell you more.
