Well i am new to the suzuki fold having sold my gq. Bought a 95 swb yesterday and have had RWC inspection done today, the only item picked giving me dramas is the rear seat belts have been defected.
I'm hoping someone here has a set i could either buy or borrow (a slab seems fair) just to get my RWC as i will put the old ones back in after. This guy is fussy so they must be in good nick.
It goes back tue for final check so it's a bit urgent.
I had bought some aftermarket ones from autobahn but they don't fit and the wrecker i tried has none either.
Any help much appreciated, pm . Thanks.

I have been searching for new belts (haven't tried suzuki yet), but no luck so far, unfortunately i'm not familiar with the good suzuki wreckers in melbourne, have been to suziworks in heidelberg but he has none. Any tips on where to shop are appreciated.

Yes I have heard this but there are two things that might go in your favor. Suzuki tended to use whatever compliance plate they had sitting on the workshop floor. Secondly roadworthy guys generally (from my experience) either don't know or are not worried about technical legalities. They just look at the basic stuff. ie do the lights work, windscreen good, brakes have more then 12 months in them, oil leaks, steering play etc. Vic roads are supposed to pick up on technical modifications. (which they don't) when I took my car to get regoed 31" tires The inspection guy wrote down a higher Tare weight because it had larger tires on it.

yep it is illegal and stoopid to fit second hand seat belts , in an accident if the belts are in use they stretch around 20% ( its a rough percentage ) but they only stretch once so the next time the belts are in an accident they don't stretch your body take the sudden stop. for the sake of $40 - $100 buy new ones.

I had a bulletin from the ANFWDC (National 4WD coucil) that indicated that it was legal to reduce the seating capaicy of the vehicle.
The reason was that people had been or were concerned that they would be defected for removing the rearmost seats in a Landcruiser etc where the compliance plate stated, for instance, 7 but capacity was now 5.
My information is that that it is 100% legal to remove seats as required.
The big issue, and were engineers/modification plates are required relates to increasing the capacity of the vehicle. This is a major hassle.
Pull the seats, it will should be fine in VIC.
Mick at Suziworld will not sell second hand seatbelts.

When I bought mine it said 4 seater on the blue slip. transport department didnt even want to look at the car But it says 2 seater on the plate, I have told the transport department and they said next time the rego is due come into one of the office and let the girl behind the counter know and they can change it!
I quieried her on this and they said dont worry about it, But I know if the cops want to get picky they will Cops are the only ones to worry about with this stuff, transport department dont give a
I got a mobile guy out to do a R/W on the misses car before we sold it, he only held the bonnet open long enough to write the chassis and engine no down and it was shut. he drove 50m down the road braked then turned around and got out, checked the lights and said all good. didnt check brake pad levels only looked at the drivers seat belt when put it on $ 80 later and it passed, (normaly it should only be $56 but because he came to me he charged a call out fee.) should have kept his number== dogy anyone

I agree entirely if they have been in an accident but otherwise they are no different to any other restraint.
I have searched high and low for new ones and suzuki quoted today $160ish each with a 3 week wait from japan.
Fortunately today i have found a company in Ballarat that specialise in seat belts, there's hardly anyone out there doing them, and hopefully will get some joy from them, sounds promising so far on the phone, just hope they have some that fit, but if not they can custom make.

Im going through the roadworhty process at the moment, my back belts were a little bit frayed aswell.
Just go to pick a part, suzuki swift centre belt fits, just find 2 swifts and grab the centre belt out of them, it will cost you $30 bucks.
Just make sure they are in good nick, stitching all good, no fraying.
The angle of the fixing bracket is a little different but they fit and look like they are factory.

Couldn't work it out at first but after a few calls found out that thats what it was!
Built swb sierra, building a lwb sierra ute and have a dmax for family camping
2 versions of sierras were sold.
A JU - which had no tachometer, fixed back seats, no rear seats and compliance as a 2 seater. These were cheap.
Drover soft tops were closer to the JU spec and also had PVC windows.
JX (more common) have the tach, rear seats, nicer trim etc and compliance for 4 seats.
This persisted into the WT, but I think that only hardtop widetracks were available in the JU trim.
We have had a few in the club (WT JU's) They specify VAN on the compliance plate to clearly define them as a commercial vehicle with no passenger rear seats.
I think they were about $1500 cheaper at the time.
