Post by chevJ40 »

Im in the middle of buying a car from queensland and getting it down here to melbourne.
i was just wondering if anyone knew the legalities about registration and transfer papers etc, does it all get transfered up in queensland or do i have to take up melbourne transfer papers and get them signed?
also with getting the vehicle from queensland and moving it down here ill have to re register it anyway so do i even need transfer papers?
any info helps thanks guys

I recently bought a car from NSW and bought it to QLD, rego wasn't transferable, at least thats what I was told, and I had to go through the usual hoops when registering an unregistered vehicle.
I would make contact with RTA, I think that is who you have down there, and get something off them about how to do it.

Cheers

all you need is proof of purchase.

Ring Vic Roads and if the car is still registered you make an appointment to re-register in VIC. If it is registered in the other state and current it is a non-inspection appointment. Your turn up with a current RWC and receipt of purchase. You pay rego and stamp duty and they give you new plates for VIC.....they also give you a receipt that you have handed your QLD plates in so you can claim refund for rest of rego in QLD......

easy...I have done it with two cars in the last twelve months.....
