Rims and tyre selection?

Post by MONGREL »

Just after some advice rims and tyres.

Planning on buying Rock crawler rims Black "O" 15x8
TYRES
Super Swamper TSL, Super Swamper LTB.
Silverstone pedes (MT 117 i think)

Want to go to no smaller than 33" prefer 34"

How wide can i go with the tyre?
Has anyone used the above tyres?

After something that bag well on rock mainly, thats why i was looking at the Swampers.

Any advice, recomendations ideas, appreciated. Tim.

What are you driving? I needed about 50mm more offset than stock to run either my 33/12.5's BFG's or 35/10.5 pedes, to stop them rubbing on the control arms.
Pedes are generally considered crap on rocks. I drive mainly mud, so I can't say much ;)

They are for a 85 Rangie, i am making 50mm wheel spacers.

Whats the weakest part of the diff, the centre or axels?

Ok didnt think they were that bad.
Any ideas on were to offset rims?
Rock crawlers are not really offset, Just any extra width above standard is added to the outside of the rim.

My bro was running 35x10.5 on hes 2 door rangie.. never broke diff or axels. I think the type of 4wd one does breaks stuff, if your a bulldozer driver expect to break sh!t all the time. He wasnt, he was always a tactical, analytical driver. Was into some difficult driving conditions, but was always sensible in hes approach.

Went to appin today, tyres are great.

Blew my rear diff though

Didnt think the centre would go before my 10 splines, maybe it was already on the way out.
Wasn't giving it that much of a hard time, eh sh!t happens.

Just been quoted $275. for another centre from wreckers. Sounds about right to me, is that a decent price?

275 that's toyota price - you'd be mad to pay that much - can't give them away in Tas as there is no demand for them here. I would gladly exchange my old ones for a carton of beer or two

Regarding your PM, the 24 spline diff's I would want 500 usually, but with frieght, about 250 to Sydney, its getting to dear for you to bother, they are marginally stronger, but still not strong enough, I'd give 'em to you for 650 delivered.......but think you start looking at alternatives, I'll leave it with the masses :D
