Changing rear gearbox seal??

Post by thomo.in.a.gq »

I need to change the rear g'box seal on a GQ.
Before I start I'm just wondering how easy/hard it is to get the seal out and in.

Cheers,
Thomo

If you mean the seal at the rear of the transfer box it is not a difficult job if it is anything like the MQ which it almost certainly is. With the brake drum removed you undo the central nut and remove the flange assembly. A couple of tips - use a genuine Nissan seal not an after-market one and check whether there is any grooving where the seal sits on the flange assembly. If there is use a speedi-sleeve to seal it.

Cheers, David

Unfortunately it is the seal at the back of the gearbox, not the transfer which means i will have to take off the transfer case to get to it.

Has anybody had to change this one?

Thanks.
