rd28t hard to start

Post by mundy »

Recently my rd28t has become hard to start. it starts normally every morning when the motor is cold, get the motor up to normal operating tempature, stop the motor, then try to start it again it becomes really hard to start. the starter turns the motor over fine it just doesnt want to fire, it usally takes a fair few cranks of the stater motor to get it to start
any ideas wat is wrong?

Mundy

ps mine is the old mechanical one out of a gq

Unfortunately you ara suffering a problem with your injection pump that is common on 2.8s. The housing wears where the advance piston sits and the head and rotor also wears. This lessons the fuel delivery amount and when it is delivered. As mentioned there is a stepped plate to bolt on the pump, but this is really only a tempory measure.

The plate sits externally at the bottom of the pump, held on with 2 bolts. To fix it properly the pump needs to be repaired.

Hi Mundy

Wouldn't the fuel pump between the GQ and GU be slightly different. One being electronic controlled whilst the GQ is machanical injection?

I had this problem but after I installed a chip and a few other mods, the problem seems to have gone.

Sorry but I cannot think of a solution other than low compression when hot or injector problems.

Regards
