Group Buy Trail Tough Fender Flares

At the risk of sounding like a d!ck, this is close to becoming the most pointless thread ever -
All the prices are pretty much available or a phone call away.
An email or phonecall will confirm what a group buy cost would be.
The normal reason for a group buy is to save on shipping and potentially get a volume discount, or to envourage a manufacturer to produce a part that is out of production or a special build.
A volume discount is around 10% from TT at best. ship more than 2 sets and you will get stung 15% for duty, so it would be cheaper for everyone who wants a TT set to just order them yourself.
Pirhana already offer club discount, and at $575 anyway... you could buy TT ones and then have headlight clearance problems unles you are uber tall or buy the aeroz ones and clear any size guard you want.
The pirhana flares look identical to the clamini flare, which is the second style pictured, posted by Muppetman.

My best advice for purchasing 'trail tough' flares (made by BUSHWACKER) is to call Peter from OPW. He is the Australian importer and I believe carries stock of the 6" wide pocket style jeep flares at all times. Price was about $800+ a set las time I talked to him. I'm sure he could do a better price for more than 1 set (and the fact the AUD$ is better) Freight from NSW to SA was $100
As for 4 & 3/4" size I bought his last 2 sets since they were not big sellers (don't know why, they look better & cover up to 33" tyre) I had to buy 2 sets to get the 4 rears for the zook. I still have 2 sets of fronts that will suit utes or tray backs if anyone's interested, but I'm happy to hang on to them for future use as I'm not going to give them away.
I went through the whole process of inquiring about buying Bushwackers direct from the US, which was pretty much a waste of time considering the freight & duties. Apart from that the dollar being a lot better these days, unless you have good ties with a shipping agency & get a really good rate from Bushwacker I doubt you'll get these flares any cheaper than buying from OPW. The freight really is a killer, import duty & GST just adds to that.

ok well i have looked into this a little, mainly on the freight side of things
i contacted another company in the US that i have delt with a few times, Rocky Road Outfitters
and they told me that they only freight them via UPS, and charge per carton, but this can be a good thing
he gave me a quote of $US200 per carton to Brissy, but has told me that if there was to be a group buy that they can pack more flares into each box, and because of the size of the box UPS charge it out at 38kg, so they can fit quite a few extra flares to each box with out it affecting the cost of frieght
and because they would still be in seperate boxes they can even be billed seperate, or to different people (say 1 to Melb, 1 to Syd, 1 to Bris ect)
and this gets around the $1k limit thus avoiding the extra 15% customs charge

2 sets of flares = 610 us + 200 shipping = 830 US@ 82c/$ = $1012 + 5%=$1062 + 10% GST = $1169 for two sets of flares landed, or 584/set.
How much where the Pirhana ones again? $570 a set?
Sorry don't want to harp, but I can't see the effort being worth it.
Steve.

So Paying $14 extra to get what you really want is not worth the effort?2 sets of flares = 610 us + 200 shipping = 830 US@ 82c/$ = $1012 + 5%=$1062 + 10% GST = $1169 for two sets of flares landed, or 584/set.
Steve your maths is out 610 +200 = 810 not 830 as you quote.
If you apply the maths correctly, $810USD in AUD (@82cents exchange rate) = $987 AUD. Thereby coming in under the magical $1000 threshold and not attracting customs or GST. Each set costing less than $500.
Hardly worth paying an extra $70 for Piranha ones.
The Piranha ones are not the same as Bushwacker. Clearly some people have preferences.
Steve, no offence but it is clear that you prefer Piranha.......We get it !!!! But if people want to chase Bushwacker ones, they will. Your technical knowledge and advice is usually very valuable but in this instance there will be differing opinions as the cosmetics of the two styles are playing a big part. Afterall if all we wanted was to cover the tyre and be flexible we would be debating Clark Rubber Vs Bunnings.

Well, its half the price of what you can get for a set of 4 here so go for itlexplay wrote:diddo, to diddyzook.
around 500 for a set doesnt sound too bad, i dont really think we thought we were going to be paying much less that.

Point taken (and also re the maths....) but I wouldn't bet on the $200 thing. I just got a quote on a box 30" by 20" by 20" at 10kg (22lb) at USD $565 for the cheapest UPS serice. delivered to Melbourne. The billable weight is 86lb, which is 39kg.
with a 10% bulk discount from TT :
565+274.50 = 839.50 USD = AUD$1023 PER SET.
Nowhere yet on this thread has anyone actually stated the landed price. It's all just guesses. See how much genuine interest there is at the real landed price rather than all the speculation.
I don't care what the flares look like, if they are expensive, they're expensive.
Steve.

$200 is the landed freight cost i have been given per carton, this is through that i have used many times when it came to parts for Jeeps, and if you read my post you will see that yes it is per carton, which you will see i mentioned they would put MORE flares in each box
your technical advice is impecible Steve, but can't you just accept that some people are going to like cosmetic differences

They are all expensive (though that is relative to the individual's cost of living).
For practicality the cheap rubber stripping to extend the standard flare is good enough but if people really want something price is sometimes not an obstacle.
When it comes to spending money on vehicles some people spend way too much others achieve great things with very little. The individual has to choose what they want to spend $$$ on. How many young blokes have an expensive stereo CD player MP3 whatever in their Zook, whereas I just prefer to listen to the voices in my head and not worry about the potential damage.
Moses pricing sounds good. But as Steve says until an order is confirmed and paid for it is still speculative. Moses proposal is still limited by the effect of customs and GST as it is the value of the shipment not each individual order within the package. But well worth exploring.

some one asked why are there not more companys making flares for sierra's.
in answer to that go back to the begining of this thread and start reading again.
if buy the time you get to this post and still haven't got it.
then i'll tell you its because people that own suzuki's are tight arses and argue there point a lot and company's know this and dont want to deal with these kind of people,
(ie. they'll argue till the cows come home, then they'll still leave there wallet in there pocket, meaning waste off sales man's breath and no sale)
go the bunnings flares
ps. i run standed jeep wrangler rear flares all round on my sierra @ $200 a set of 4 second handy's there desposible @ $50 each and look good
IMHO naturaly..!!

I'm not arguing cosmetics at all, only function and cost.
Moses, if you can get UPS for $200, great, its 1/3 of the quoted price I can get.
At that price, sure, 2 sets might come under the customs threshold and at that they are cheaper than the Pirhana product and then might be viable.
However, based on the UPS quote system even one set is over the threshold and therefore not good value IMHO or a less functional product.
Go for it guys, but please don't think I am arguing cosmetics, I'm not. I know that's a matter of opinion. The fact is the pirhana product is more durable, kinder to the car, and allows a taller tyre. It will also be the cheapest (my contention) and the easiest and cheapest to replace if one was destroyed.

I hate going to weddings because all the grandma's used to poke me in the ribs saying you're next, you're next. They've stopped doing it since I started doing it to them at funerals.
Now they are a good looking factory replacement style flare I found out about these mud busters right after i got my bushwackers.
Still, I'm happy with my choice since my original mounting brackets were rusted to hell and had to be removed, along with parts of the body they were attached to, and my rear floor has been hacked up etc etc so I can warrant getting 'non-rounded' type flares - and since I have the option to shape the wheel arches to the shape of the jeep style flare, which I like, I will do, eventually But, for the guys that just want to cover their big rubber & have a zook with brackets still in tact then these puppies are the simplest, strongest & easiest to fit!!! IMO of course, LOL

I`ve seen those Bushwacker flare`s on a mates zook, they are pretty ridgid, wouldnt want to rock slide on them though.
I`ve just fitted a set of Wrangler flares on the Gravitron, very easy to install if you`ve got access to a nutsert tool.
These flares are a softer plastic than the bushwacker flares and will slide rocks and come back to shape, without shattering.

"Gravitron " : drives the first layer of Gravity
Datey, this'd be second longest Suzuki project that I've ever seen. It even beats some of the project times on vehicles that I had at GRP. When will you stop web-wheeling and get out on the track?? I need another driver for the Club's mens team at Willowglen. Come on, you know you want to!!!Bentzook wrote:I`ve seen those Bushwacker flare`s on a mates zook, they are pretty ridgid, wouldnt want to rock slide on them though.
