Coopers warrenty

Post by outlandy »

Has anyone sucessfully claimed warrenty on a cooper. I have recently had one fail and did not get any warrenty. I find it hard to be able to warrent a tire anyway it is a consumeable part of a car that is destined to wear out
It blew out on a straight section of bitumen road at 100kph

My father successfully claimed on warranty for four cooper at's I think they were. Actually Coopers were excellent about it and sorted him out with a set of ST's to replace what he had and very promptly too.

He now has MTR's and wouldn't go back to Coopers though, they had very odd wear characteristics, and I ahev now seen this with friends cars also.

They so far seem alright to me. Apart from one blowout. They perform exceptional off road for what I do with em. They have hardly any wear and cant tell the difference from the ones I just bought to the ones on the car that have done 10000k

Yes I claimed , got 3 out of 4 because they chipped down to the steel belts.
Dont take NO for an answer, tell them the tyre pressures you were useing, when you checked them, where you were useing them and then ask them why it failed?!
The response you get seems to vary greatly from shop to shop, some understand customer relations, some have trouble blinking and breathing at the same time.
If no joy at the coal face contact coopers direct and give them the broadside.

My old man just had a new STT replaced this week. Only about 5000k old with one lug almost torn off and a crack from it spreading to the length of a lug in front and behind the damaged one!
The tyre guy he bought them off told him he shouldnt be using mud tyres on the road and they are no suitable for rocks and it was his fault. It was only after a couple calls to Cooper did they come to him, agree, and sort a replacement. They put it down to a "curing problem" not a compund problem.
Does this mean he still has 4 more "curing problems"?

A mate went to a coopers distributor for his 10k alignment. They set the toe about 15mm to far in, so the outside of both fronts scrubbed out over the next 1000km. Both fronts were replaced, but he had to pay 1/8th of the cost of the tyres (80k km warranty - 10k km already travelled).

Are they really this bad?

The tyres or the dealers?

Overall the STT's are a good tyre, just dont spin your wheels on sharpish rocks at road pressures.
They do a lot of things well for an all terain, but sharp rocks seem to be a problem to them.
Dealers are the other problem, some are much better than others.
In the end tyres are a consumerble, life of the tyre depends greatly on how they are treated and the surfaces they are used on, Coopers may be a bit flamboyant with their claims re their warrenty, but barring damage the tyres usually do seem to make the distance claims.
