Post by hypo »

well maybe not wot u all think but i just curious wot has a fltter pitman arm than a 100 series cruza ???

i am currently running a 100 series pitman arm with my hi-steer and it now binds the springs on hard driverside compression.

just wondering if there is another arm i can use or do i need 2 custom make/buy one ???

Standard ones slightly modified with a 30mm extention, as I told you at Nissan Trials I don`t know if I have them write yet as I just guessed 30mm

Ben, run the truck up a ramp to where you want the diff to be (so nothing binds) measure the distance between the top of the spring (or plate if you have u bolt flip) and the frame bumpstop contact plate. Drop the rig back to flat ground, now jack up each side individually (with jack under the diff), with the bumpstop you plan to use under the diff (on top of the jack), jack up until the tyre lifts off the ground and measure the now compressed thickness of the bumpstop. From there you can calculate how long to make the bumpstop extension.

Although this method also picks up the diff and tyre weight, and half the suspension and steering (unsprung weight), you will want to add in this buffer to allow for the added weight encountered on compression on the trail ie coming down hard on the bumpstops.
Built, not bought.

I use soft rubber ones that are made by Queensland Rollers and Liners. They stand at about 110mm and crush to 40mm. They provide a cushion as they compress. What this also does is allows you to run a soft pack that upon compression has the spring rate of the bumpstop added to it. I set mine so that the spring has a nice even curve at full compression and a lot of the force it taken by the bumpstop so the chance of spring fatigue are less.

i believe that i have the shortest flatest arm toyota make, it would work better if my box was alittle further forward but i too need to mod the bump stops.

Gday Hypo
Noticed Zoltan runs spaced down (2 inches roughly) front spring eyes, would this help?
