I've had my 2.8 now for two years, and have to confess am very impressed with it's economy. It'll leave a 4.2 for dead, and even give a 3 litre a bloody good run for it's money.
Course with gas fumigation fitted and a 2 1/2 inch straight thru exhaust system, it helps considerbly.
If economy is your main criteria with a 4wd, you'd find it hard to beat a 2.8. IMHO. :)

Best I ever got or at least when i worked it out is 7.8Km/L or 12.75L/100km this is around town, now this is me driving with BB Turbo and fuel chip.

On the highway providing you stay on 110km you will easily get 10Km/L and easily get 1000km out of a tank.

I get around 11-12ltres per hundred with no roofrack and about 13-14 lires per hundred with it on. Never ever had 10s. I'm about to do 3,500 kms from Melb to the Flinders Ranges and up the Strezlecki and then down the Silver City Hwy with a 3lt Prado and a 2.8 Jeep KJ will be an interesting comparo over those distances.

Now that i think about it, not being in the morning and able to do some math, 10s would be pushing it (maybe if you slipstreamed a truck), but it definately possible to get easily over 1000km's out of a tank (125L) when mostly highway use.
