hilux pitman arm and j arm ball ends

yes I searched.

Is it possible to replace the ball ends on the pitman arm and j arm on a solid axle hilux? if yhes, how?

they sell kits.... i saw one on Ebay last week.

I didnt think they were replaceable. Usually just get new arms.

If they are replaceable I'd like to know how too.

had a look, the parts are available, does anyone know how to change them? look like they are swaged on to the j-arm and pitman arm?

They are swaged on the J arm. I saw a write up on Pirate where you can grind away above the ball and you can press it out and press it back on on the top of the arm and reweld. Must be a cheap way instead of buying a drop drag link when you lift your lux.

HI I am having the exact trouble now I have did a little research and have found a replacement ball off a 75 series Cruiser they are a tappered fit with a nut and split pin on them.The other info was correct also you grind the mushroomed part of the ball off and then punch or press it out then put new ball in and tighten it up or get the kits that have the press in ball like the original and I was told to press it in then mushroom the bottom of it over I dont like this idea .I was also told not to weld as it changes strength of the ball,so I dont know but the bolt in balls are a better idea.I am yet to do it but will let you know how I went.

was told(by a mechanic) to grind the top back on the j arm and press it out, press a new one in and weld it good around the top(suppose the pitman arm is same) being a metalworker by trade, if u weld it and let it cool down in its own time(dont quench it) it shouldnt affect he strenght too much, i could be wrong this is just my understanding of it. I am also about to do this so if anyone comes up with the correct way to do it would be good. thanks

Mushrooming the bottom of it will be fine, and strong.
Its only to stop it coming out, not actuallya dding any real strength to it, thats done via the rest of it pressed into the arm.

I used to reco the 'J' arms for one of the melb wreckers and the balls are a biach to get out ( grind mushroom flat, drill out with a cobolt hard cut drill and the press with a smaller drift so the the ball shaft can shrink when pressing out. ) new ball is pressed in with loctite 680 and all parts cleaned and primmed the the end penned to retain it . i done dozens of them and got real good at it . I had an engineer inspect and he was happy but definitly didn't want the ball weled in. Never heard of one comming loose either.

I brand new genuine pitman arm was only 180 dollars through repco.
