Sorry new to the whole fan forced thing (turbo) Where is the best rev range to drive a 4.2 t/d?
mines non turbo, on 35" and average around 11.5 l/100km in a GQ ute on more or less a 35" tyre.
shift to bring the revs to around 1200 each gear. cruises on highway at 2200 keeping up with traffic.
use as little right foot as possible. i know its fun to flog it, but as you are realising you will pay the price. remember, your bigger. you can go as slow as you like. what are they gonna do?

When I had the TD42 still in it I was happy if I got over 300k from a 65l tank! It did go well though!!!!!!!! ie 20 was good economy.
I don't really believe 11-12 even if you drive like a nana, but if you haven't had the speedo calibrated for the 35's then I believe that is what yor speedo says but in reality you are doing way less ie about 14 which is realistic. But prove me wrong and tell everyone else how you do it as with current fuel prices they'd be happy to know!

93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
My TD42 turbo Mav used to regularly get 10.5L per 100km around town when it was standard on 29s and 4.1 diffs. With the 35s and 4.1s I get about 14.5L per 100km around town and about 11 on the Hwy.

lol, think about it mate.
put 35" tyres on, they bigger than a 31". so your speedo reads 100 km, but you have actually done 113 km. ( i did the maths) so when my gauge reads 600km and i put 75 litres in ive actually done nearly 680 km which is around 11 litres per 100km.
maybe your td42 was flogged out and working hard to make power? maybe it was revving its tits off on the highway? maybe you were running low tyre pressures?
i run 45psi tyre pressure, its a 97 with 170K on it, and is tight as the proverbial nun, it does 2200 rpm on the highway (speedo reads 95km, which is a bit under 110 in real life) and thats right in the meat of the torque band (peak torque at 2000, so its very efficient in that range).
no secrets, just sensible driving. remember, its a diesel, not a sports car. mines never seen more than 3400 rpm, and that was making a get awat from a set of lights

well, id be more than happy with anything nearing 13 ever, and i dont flog it anywhere, drive standard tyre size, no lift, no extra weight, and 90% highway, and i never exceed 103kph (actual) at 2300rpm. Though economy improved significantly for highway with the upgrade to 3inch dump & exhaust, but still getting 13.5l/100k. Always used to be 14-14.5. Maybe its cause i have a heavy steel and wood tray?
wonder what would happen on a long trip if you upped your tyre size?

mines a ute aswell, alu tray, with the spare on and toolbox with tools thats a decent lift for 2 blokes, so probs 70 kg of tools. weighs in at 2200 on the weighbridge at the tip with a half tank of fuel...
general, 3" dump? yours is turbo? i thought they were meant to provide better economy...

Tyre size would probably help for touring, its just got the 265/75-16 atm. And ive been running at around 38psi all round. Its the turbo, and after driving the na model i decided immediatly my choice was either turbo or go back to cruisers.
Went over the scales at the tip about 9 months back and it came in at 2.65tonne wet (me, spare tyre, ~150litres of fuel). Did i mention I have heavy tray? Although same scales with 2 persons in a TD 100 series was 2.7t full fuel. So not sure how that compares.

thats around 750 km if you allow for the difference in tyre size
so thats around 12l/100 if your using the full 90 litres
