Hilux Air Intake Resonance

Post by danos »

Hi

This is a continuation from this post but with more a appropriate heading (to attract more help). http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/phpBB2/vi ... ht=snorkel

As said, the issue is a heap of vibration in the wheel arch fro the air intake. Its an Oct 98 Hilux Dual Cab 3.0L Diesel with 5L engine.

The problem has only started since I removed the resonator to fit a second battery. I have a Safari Snorkel as well.

With resonator removed. Hole plugged with sink plug and silicon.

This is my mates car, same year but different month i think (has safari snorkel as well). It hasn't got the resonator and never did yet he does not have any of the above problems. The pipe doesnt even have the hole for it to go.

Im going to pull the plastic cover off in the wheel arch and have a look at what I can tighten as well as adding some foam. Apart from that its all ive got.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Thanks
Dane

Yeh i got in there and tightened all the bolts, added some foam and secured the indicator but its still pretty noisy.

The way it sounds, the majority of the noise is due to the engine sucking in the air and the volume of the air intake (including snorkel). If i can reduce the volume a bit i should be able to stop it.

I noticed on a mates Troopy that he has a small resonator hanging off the elbow pipe in between the motor and airbox. Might see if i can get one of those to fit.

I know earlier (LN106) hilux safari snorkels were supplied with a little plastic donut that sat inside the top of the snorkel. Might be an idea to check and see if your mate's has one where yours doesn't.
