How do i work out what turbo?

Post by mud80 »

Hi all,
Wanting to get the ball rolling with fitting a turbo to my 4.5l petrol cruiser.

Have called a few turbo mobs only to be told that they would just fit the kit as from safari for $2500 plus tuneing and exhaust. Then if i wanted a ecu another $1200 plus tune and $2600 for a fluid/air intercooler (fitted).

You can prob understand why i want to do this myself!

Can anyone help me with how to pick out what turbo to use and can any one put me onto someone who can fab up a turbo manifold in the melb-dandenong aera?

Cheers

Give Andy at Diesel Tec in Lilydale a call..
Address: Lilydale Industrial Park,
Lilydale,
Phone: (03) 9739 5031

He has a sequencial turbo (1 turbo feeds another) 80 series and GQ he built for himself to demo some of his ideas.

Has done plenty of work for people on here (mine included) with excellent results... When I go to the next stage I'll get Andy will get the job.

What ever you do, go to as many places as you can, and see their work first hand.. Both PGS and Diesel Tec and some others have good reputations and do good work, but there are some shonks out there as you would understand.

My friend turbo'd his 4500 GU and it puts out 220Kw. It is a safari system. Has had heaps of tuning problems and it is more to do with the capabilities of the tuners than the overall system..

Personally, I think his end goal was too high and a more modest boost would have saved hims some dosh.

He has blown an engine ( rod thu block) gone through exhausts, blown head gaskets and is continually having to fine tune it. Certainally not a set and forget. Is running a Haultech or Motec system, It is a daily driver so he needs it to be reliable.

STill, it hauls arse.
