transfer hand brake - or lack of

Post by nicbeer »

Hey,

What is the adjusting procedure for doing the transfer handbrake.

Mine does not work.

also has anyone done the conversion of the NT handbrake into a WT and got the cable/bracket working corectly. seems the nut on the cable is big to fit correct into the WT position. I am using a NT cable with NT setup on transfer and WT chassis/body. I have tried and going to play with the NT or WT handbrake lever setup and see if that differs.

Nic

I believe there are some small differences at handbrake end of the WT shell VS the NT. Can't confirm what fits with what, but I have had some compatibility issues.

there is a hole in the transfer drum, get a screwdriver in there and wiggle the adjusters around until it's almost dragging. It's the same procedure as for 1.0 rear brakes.

You'll need to pull the drum I reckon to figure it out to start with (and get it close) but once adjusted up they can actually work very well..... till you smack them on a rock.

Just an idea, I think if it was possible or useful someone else may have come up with the idea before me, but I believe the TC handbrake is the same as 1 1ltr rear drum brake, could you swap in a 1ltr hydraulic brake cylinder into the handbrake assy, and use a (don't know the right word) hydraulic ram attached to the handbrake lever.

If the "ram" had a reasonable amount of travel and the right pivot point onto the handbrake lever I imagine you could get quite alot of pressure to the brake cylinder and therefor greater handbrake power.

Do you recon it would work or is the design of the drum and pads just crap to start off with

Or you could just buy a line lock for temporary parking. These are no good for a normal use handbrake as the fluid can leach out of the system after some time.

Search Launch control on ebay.

You can run on either the front or rear. If you want both attach your park brake cable to your foot pedal for a fully sik 4 wheel hydraulic park brake.

i was think the same thing as Jaffa. use the 1ltr rear drum and power it with a clutch type hydrolic booster. be interested if the rear brake backing plate will bolt onto the back of the transfer.

mm pullin the drum sounds fakn hard to get that damn nut off.

I have a complete 1L transfer brake here also, i'll try look at that to work it out and go from there.

have to work out the cable and handle side of things first.
