POWER STEER "yes i searched"

Post by offroader-rama »

I just put my hilux diffs in my sierra and i have a vitara p/s to fit with them but i was looking out the p/s of bundera it sits on top and out side the chassis rather than all in side i need a bigger radiator and changing to bundera or similar would give me ample room for a bigger radiator has any one done this.

I can have the budera one with pitman and steer arms for a fair price.
so hoping all bolt up to diffs, will it not ??(may have to shorten front drag link??

or has a better suggestion as i realy could use more room for a bigger radiator. as i had one made as big as i could with the area i had and its all right 90% of the time but if i sit over 110ks it gets hot or flog it offroad etc... (so whats the point, its to small)

PS yes i seached and all i could find was a fight over who bigger tyers with there jinmy box :?

Bud i had an old zook with hilux diffs and 38" tsl sx, i ended up running a 75 series cruiser power steer box and just made links to suit the lux diffs.Wasn't hard to convert over and made the zook steer with 1 finger even at 2psi with both lockers in......

Hope this helps.

I ran Vit power steering on my MQ diffs with 36" tyres. Worked well for me.

Now have a 60 series box feeding 60 series diffs on 36" tyres and a Ford pump. It needs some revs to get it all to work.

Will be swapping this out to a high flowed/tweaked late model Holden pump with a remote resivour and will be getting the box done at the same time.

60 series pitman arm swings forward so you either need to move your diff forward or steering box backward to use them.

I'll be using the p/s pump of the ca18 if this help
as for 60-75 landcruiser would they be over kill and also needing to much fluid to keep working at lower revs than the ca18 pump will supply.
at this stage i dont plan on running any thing bigger than 35's for offroad and 31-33 for on road and i cant see this changing in a long time as it will see the high way all to often.
also the prices i have being given for the cruiser box's buys me 4 bundera ones (at the price of my mates) and they dont come with steer arms

So are you running a Sierra radiator, Vitara radiator or a CA18 radiator?

I'd be measuring the three up so assert the difference between what you have and the CA18 factory radiator.

There's a loy of work to change out your current power steer that sounds like its working find just to swap out the radiator. Maybe look at a thicker core radiator with a high volume thermo for a more efficient use of the current space?

to clarifie as there seems to be some confusion

i have a lwb sierra with a ca18det at present no p/s a CUSTOM radiator that sits RIGHT behind the grill as BIG as it could be due to the FACTORY steer box WITH the BIGGEST thermo fan i could fit behind it.

(and it works fine 90% of the time but thats not good enough)

now at present, I'm putting custom springs, in cab control rancho 9000's, hilux diffs, 35's baja claws and POWER steer.

I brought a vitara P/S box and had planned to run that. (brought it without all the extra arms, lines and shafts etc...so they would have to be sauced/ made)

BUT i looked at a bundera box and it sit on top of the chassis and to the out side and as dundera diffs are high lux diff i though that would make more sence as there made for each other and would give me more room for a much larger radiator that would work 100% of the time.

QUESTION TIME
has any one used one ON A SIERRA WITH HILUX DIFFS or no how good a bundera P/S box is ???

thank you

Have i used a Bundera box, no.

Have i used a Vitara pump, yes, and it worked fine with 36" tyres.

Regarding the cooling of your motor. Have you looked into running an oil cooler on your turbo if you don't already have one? Even looked at ways of dropping engine bay temps through greater air flow or wrapping exhaust (personally hate this as it holds moisture)
