Re: dam bender issue!!!
umm i think you actually have the wrong die....the dawn dies have the actual size of the NB tube you are using stamped on them..so 32nb should have 32 stamped on it...as far as stopping the dents get yourself some 40nb tube and cut a piece about 100mm long..then cut this in half lengthways so yuo have two halves...place them between the rollers and the tube..if you get real keen you can actually weld them onto the rollers..this will prevent the tube from denting..make sure that before you weld them onto the rollers make sure that you do a test bend to 90 degrees to see how close the die will come to the rollers as you dont want it to hit the pieces of 40nb tube..the rollers should be placed in the second adjustment holes from the outside as well..Red_Zook wrote:ok bought a cheep crap bender.

forget about fillling with sand and all that stuffing around,..my method is heaps easier and it worked for me for like two years and i never kinked or dented tube and i built countless sliders and two external roll cages using it that way..
if you still cant get it to work then throw it away and buy yourself a draw through bender

Off topic a bit.
Dave, you mention using the second adjustment holes from the end, I have seen this mentioned heaps too in other threads.
I have a bow and arrow bender and havent used it yet as I'm waiting for my dawn die to arrive. I assumed these holes where used according to the siz of die. The bender came with 6 dies and it has six adjustment holes. I assumed you would use the 2 closest to the centre with the smallest die and keep moving out a hole with each bigger sized die?
School me please!

who hires them? i tried all the local hire places, ie kennards, coates etc and all they had available for hire was bow and arrow jobsGribble wrote:If its denting or rippling the pipe in the centre then you have too big a die. If its doing it past the ends of the bend then you have the 2 retainer thingys in the wrong spot.
PS, i told you to hire a draw through bender and you didnt listen, so ner.
I know there is a mob that hires a bender to rally teams to bend their cages, ill see if i can find out and get back to you.Madmac wrote:who hires them? i tried all the local hire places, ie kennards, coates etc and all they had available for hire was bow and arrow jobsGribble wrote:If its denting or rippling the pipe in the centre then you have too big a die. ok it was the wrong size die..
so... i now have biger pipe to suit
just did most of my top hoop... ohhh right!!!!
i have designd my cage so i have basicly NO 90's that way its stronger and less chance of fawking the pipe..
i have worked out the best way to get a tight ish bend is to start on the 3rd last holes then switch to the far outers.. works well!!
thanks heeps 80lsy gq i will defently fo that tomorow!
heres a quick pick!
thanks again guys!

youll onbly get the bend as tight as the die. unfortunately that isnt the tightest on the dawn die. i also found with a length of tube it doesnt matter what holes u use if the pipe is medium or thick wall. it will get to the point where the rollowers hit the pipe on the former.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
I tried that when I was having the same problems as you and it still didn't work. I ended up buying a proper bender and never had a problem since. I was told be a couple of people that the reason I couldn't bend the tube I was trying to bend was because it had a high carbon content and a cheapo bender just wont bend it.Red_Zook wrote:yeah that sounds cool.. but what a ***** pain in the ass..Krankieone wrote:weld small bit of plate on end of pipe

thansk for the advice but.. if i keep having this many issues i will give it a go!
So it might be the metal thats causing your problems not your technique.
Cheers Mick.
cheers for the good advice guys, im finaly geting good bends out of my heap!
i just got a dawn 32nb from Bearing & Industrial Suplies in cranbourne for $90+ gst (i think there only $100+ gst normaly). im useing a 12T super works bender from super poo auto and had to make a adapter as the die is drilled to 36mm (for a 35mm ram) and the super works ram is 19 or 20mm.bj42turbo wrote:Cool so what did ya pay for the cheapy bender and Dawn die
