From my limited understanding of High Pinions....

They are predominantly designed for front diffs to provide clearance. They seem to usually break in reverse. If you put a high pinion diff in the rear it will be running backwards and therefore more inclined to break than a standard unit running the correct way.

The transmission guy that I trust explained it that way and it makes sense to me.

Others ?
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.

the ring gear and the pinion are pushing away from each other , when you pur a front "high pinion" in the rear. this is BAD, accelerated wear etc...

it has somthing to do with the "cut" of the gear sets. if you can put a "high pinion" next to a "low pinion" and have a how much different the shape of the teeth are.

forget it !!
i pulled the high pinion out of it housing and its a 4.5 i was told it was 4.3 I am getting my money back tomorrow  .

but is a hemisphere interchangable from a 4.5 to a 4.3 as i now have to weld up a hemisphere and the spare ones i have are from 4.5's and i am running 4.3 are they the same its hard to compare with out pulling them apart.
