Wheel stuck

Post by want33s »

I just fitted Lowrangeoffroad mini backing plates and new wheel bearings to my wt 89 sierra. The left side is fine but when I tighten the right drum I can't turn it, even with the wheel on. Anyone got any idea why the drum is locking up when tightened?

Gotta ask the silly maybe logical ones first

Is the other wheel on the ground..?

In gear..?

Look at backing the shoes of a little ....? If you start your 4by let the booster kick in again release some pressure maybe...
..wrench, wheel, wreck repeat..

No the handbrake isn't on.. The rear brake shoes are very worn and they are fully adjusted but still nowhere near interfering. Both the wheels were off the ground.
I found the problem but I'm not sure yet whats causing it.. when I tighten the 4 nuts on the rh drum/axle the drum is locking up on the backing plate.

I'd say you forgot to put the little spacer ring on before the bearing?

Thanks BenT but there wasn't any spacer. Just backing plate, sealed bearing, lock ring... The only thing I can think of is maybe the new bearing is thinner than the old one by a mm or 2 ?? I'll have to pull the axles back out and check :bad-words: :bad-words:

Problem solved...
Turns out the backing plates got bent in the bearing removal procedure.
I removed then pressed them straight and flat and refitted now all is good.
