starter motor

Post by CHIEF88 »

hey everyone,

Just wondering where in Brisbane I would be able to buy a reconditioned starter motor from? and about what price should I expect?
I have been told for a new one, around the 250 mark.

Thanks,

Dean.

If I take it to an Auto Elec will they charge to look at it ?
or should I be able to tell whats wrong with it ?
Ive never seen inside one, would it be noticeable whats wrong with it if I were to take it off ?

Exchanging the thing for a reco'd one sounds like an alright idea.

wot is it doing or not doing? if u pull it out and put it in a vice you can check the solnoide and do a load test on it. to check the solonide just get sum jumper leads put the earth on the starter somwhere and touch the + on the power poll and swithching wire at once the pinion gear shuld throw out and spin up if it does this the solonide is ok if nt it stufed. so nxt load test may need 2 ppl for this do same as last but get a peice or decent wood and use i as a lever against the pionin gear if you can slow it down witth the wood the contacts a stuffed. most auto elects will hook u up exchange for round 100 easy that way.

Well started off just taking ages once I'd turned the key to actually kick over the engine.
Then it changed to sounding like the battery was flat but kicking over after like one turn.
Now it goes ' click ' as if the battery is fully dead, then after about 2 seconds it just kicks the engine over, and once engine started makes a weird sound for a split second.
(thought the sound might be the pin thing not retracting)
(and thought the dead battery click sound was because pin thing wasn't getting enough electricity to fire and engage?)

by auto elec doing the exchange do you mean people like AED ?

had the starter go on my lux few months ago and it was apparently the reduction gear drive (mine is a diesel engine). would spin fine when off the car but was doing a similar thing to yours, as in when would go to start it would click and not do anything. was very intermittent and random, sometimes would fire first go, other times would not start at all, usually when getting off the barge to straddie with everybody watching! ended up with a new aftermarket one. quoted from toyota for a new genuine one was over $1200!!

Well 2 places now have said for an exchange around the 250 dollar mark.. pretty exy if u ask me for a reco'd one. Might just go a new one.

Unless anyone got a better deal for a Hilux one in Brisbane ? Because I'd love to know the name of the place.
