How much is my Lux worth?

Post by dan_2818 »

Hey all, just wanting to upgrade my lux and dont know what its worth.

Its a 2.8 1989 single cab with good steel tray.

THE GOOD:
33 mud terrains
2 inch body lift
1-2 suspension lift
150ish litre fuel tank
lightforce 170s
uniden UHF
Sony CD player
Tray lights
alloy TJM Bullbar
Home job spray paint 1 year old
all brakes, bearings, diff seals and reconditioned gearbox done in the last year

THE BAD
car says 350,000 km, 70,000 since a imported engine with unknown kms was put it
2 months rego
no power steering and freeplay in steering
noisy fanbelts

Im getting another lux and want to do the similar mods, would i be better
taking it back to stock and selling it and keeping gear for next lux

Cheers Dan

Not knocking your rig at all but going by your description i have bought better in Brisbane more than once for $2500. I personally wouldnt pay more than that for what you have. (i buy and sell 88-97 hilux's on a daily basis)

Once they have been given a hard time and are looking a little rough they are worth nothing.

Also you say it has an import engine? If this is correct then its not a 2.8. These were only originaly delivered to Aus,NZ and South Africa as far as im aware. And as far as im aware no-one imports these engines from NZ or SA.

It seems to depend where you are!

I have found, much to my disapoitment something that sells for about $8000 up here in Queensland, can go as cheap as about $4000 down south. (don't interpret that as 1/2 price, just allot cheaper)

If your sticking with Lux's I'd keep you accesories that are good, maybe fuel tank, tyres, spotties etc. If the box is recon keep it too maybe, and chuck in a cheapo one to go with the 350,00km drive train. That said, allot of people couldn't be bothered and would just sell the lot and replace, depends on which way your inclined...

Another Option: If people genrally decide its worth squat, maybe part it out, swap in to your new one what you want, keep certain parts for spares, then flog the rest off for whatever you can.
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.
