h55f gearbox with h41 t/c

Post by cruiser60series »

i want to put in a h55f gearbox into my hj47. I've been doing some research.

2 questions:

What is the best way to go about changing shaft lengths? I have HJ60 shafts i would prefer to cut and use in case i want to go back to all original set up.

Can i keep the h41 transfer case as it has the transmission hand brake on it. And still have the 5 speed?
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.

If you t-case it's the older version ( one piece ) it does not match with the H55F that come with the newer t-case BF1A called split case..

This it's my split case .. ( splited )

just cut and reweld the rear and extend the front. rear one get a driveline specialist to do it if your worried you will be out of balance, for the front, just chop and extend, it wont be spinning at high rpm anyway.

From memory, the front plate that bolt to the gearbox and is the front part of the transfer has an extra bolt to the 4 speed...so u need the front of a 5 speed transfer....then....there was a few mods done to the 5 speed transfer case idler gear shaft size, 88+ being the largest and best. So theoretically, you are better off getting a 88+ transfer and box. while there you might swell get the lot...in 1985, they (toyota) tilted the gearbox 7 degrees by modding the bellhousing. This negated the need for a double cardon front shaft...so anything after a 85 will have a different orientation gearstick and crosmember mount wise
