Yes, i know it is some what of a given, but it is not good. It is a 3L 2.8 Hilux. It has 245,000Km's on it, and uses no oil at all, and compression is very similar between all cylinders. The injectors were changed about 70,000 Km's ago, and the previous owner had the injector pump rebuilt about seven months ago. The smoke only comes when i am going up hill, or taking off out of the lights, once i am up to speed, it all goes.
When the injector pump was put in, the owner was on holiday, and i believe it was a quick swap over. Is it possible that it was just not set up properly, or do minor changes to the fuel delivery not really make a huge difference.I ask this as my mates hilux, same year, engine etc does not smoke as much on acceleration, but is slower of the mark, and at over taking speeds is slower than mine. I don't mind a slower car (if this is possible) to reduce the smoke coming out.Could it be the injectors, as i am unsure of the lifespan of these. And if it is the injector pump over fueling, how can i go about rectifying this.

It's either too much fuel or too little air.

First check your air system (filters etc) for obstructions. If that's all okay you can get someone to turn down the pump a little. It'll stop the smoke but you will lose a little power.

Going by you saying it is quicker than your mates, the pump might have been turned up a bit when intsalled, giving you a bit more power, but using a bit mroe fuel and producing more smoke.

Just leave it It's good to have a bit more power anyways

And lift your right foot a bit. BUt check the air filters first, but id say the pumps been turned up for sure. More fuel=more power But too much fuel= black smoke ( unburnt diesel)

Compare the fuel economy with your mates, You may even get a bit better due to more power. Its a fine balance though

humm would really depend on how much smoke your talking about. My stock diesel smokes a little bit but you'd have to expect some smoke at least when getting going.

I've been told Injectors should be changed around the 100,000klm mark but that doesn't always mean they are the problem, as some people never change them and they run fine anyway, hard to say I suppose.

get them checked out for leaks or poor spray pattern a injector clean might do the trick never know, try that diesel power that works.

If it smoke under heavy loads .. and the temp keeps normal .. you are " fine .. " to certify it .. the best way it's a Pyro Gauge ... whit it you knoe exactly what happends in your head/pistons .. and if you have much more fuel that can be dangerous for your engine ..

I find that most Hilux's push out a little smoke when you're going up a hill. just a 3L thing I guess, my 92 with 300k on the clock does it, so don't be too alarmed.

It'll probably a smoke a bit too if it's been wound up.

I had EXACTLY the same problem in my Hilux. I had the car to a heap of mechanics, and asked a lot of questions - but no result One Diesel mechanic turned the pump back, but I lost power.
THEN, I got on to another mechanic who was a bit more switched on. He checked the timing and discovered the belt was out by 2 notches.
Now -- no smoke, enough power ( well, Hilux`s never have enough power ) and good fuel economy. Check your timing.

my lux smokes when taking off and powering up hills ect. after a while i just stoped careing and starting saying ahh well its a diesel
