hey guys i got a GQ with the 4.2 carby petrol motor ive just had a new converter and mixer fitted,,, the gas ring type my problem is that with the snorkle pluged up it stalls when i decelerate and if it doesnt stall it has a huge flat spot... Ive been back to the lads who fitted it and they put a balance pipe on but it is worse with in on and has no power. Today i put back on the pre filter to see how that works and it is a bit better but still goes to stall and still has the flat spot
On fuel it runs bloody perfect
any help will be great

ive turned the head of the snorkle around and then it stalls straight away.. Or it just struggles to get power.

i have un plugged the snorkle and pulled out the by pass hose and it runs great but when the snorkle is plugged back up it runs great but stalls on deceleration, then plug the by pass hose in and im back to my original problem
I have fixed this problem before, there is a poly fitting on the coverter that isn't plumbed to anything. This fitting is how the converter senses the air pressure, it is picking up the engine bay pressure. The air ramed down the snorkel is pressurised a bit this is enough that the engine won't idle as it leans the mixure out. Plumb this fitting to the airbox/carby and the converter will give you the correct idle mixure.

i have fitted the hose at the back of the converter to the air cleaner houseing and it does nt make much difference. ive been told to drill a small hole into the fitting tolet air bleed out but a hole to small wont work and one to big wont work but no one can tell me what size hole. ive tried drilling different sizes but seems to do no good.
no they are all the same, when the gas system is turned on, the EFI setup just nothing at all, just sits there and collects dust. its a Gas setup..
i found that most have the balance pipe hooked up before the air box and aiming so that the air is forced into the balance pipe so the gas knows whats happening, if its turned the wrong way it gets a vacuum affect when it should be force fed air and vice versa.
never had a snorkel on my old mav that was gas driven but mate had TB45, with snorkel. when the gas was put on his engine every time he game to stop, or decelerate the engine would stall, a balance pipe was put in with a elbow in it before the air filter, this allowed it to get force fed air and was able to sense the engine load, stopped it instantly

Yep, spot on.
The diaphram in the converter needs to sense the 'ram air' pressure on both sides to equalise the effect. Then it becomes the same as when there was no snorkel fitted (and the back of the converter was open to atmospheric pressure)
Place the equaliser tube into the wrong spot and it will have no improvement at all - or it could actually make it worse.
