ENGINEERS OPINIONS NEEDED!!!!

Post by Screwy »

Guys,

would like to speak to an Engineer to give me information on getting an Engineers certificate on a SOA of my MQ under NSW rules, have spoken to Chaos already ( very helpful ) and am looking for an extra opinion.
Anyone no another engineer that does SOA's that i can try?
anywhere?

Help would be appreciated.
Cheers,

Screwy

Alrighty, SORRY guys. Probably should have worded that a little better. prob one to many to drink.

I havnt done the conversion yet, but am ringing around to see who actually does SOA engineers certificates. Ive spokn to the guys at chaos, who have been extremely helpfull, but im after another coupla opinions on the best way to do it, cost, and what they pass etc.
Also chaos is a decent drive from me and im looking for someone a little closer.

Basically ive spoken to choas and 2 of there engineers, sounds fair and good, just after a coupla other opinions before i lash out with the dollars.

Sorry if i gave the wrong impression.

do you mean engineer to do the work, or engineer to pass the work? Why would you need to talk to so many engineers that are to pass the work, SPOA is SPOA isnt it?

Thanks for that wendle. Didnt think of that mob. They might just be able to give me that second opinion on the best ways to do it, and what sort of cost is involved , so i know how much to save 4.

Id like to speak to one last engineer so i have 3 points of perspective so that way i can be sure on what has to be done under NSW rules.
Chaos are looking good, ill talk to Darren and Narellan 4x4 today, does anyone know another guy i could have a talk to about the mod??

Cheers,

Cool thanks heaps for those names Ferwoaza.
Now i can get my opinions and figure out the best option for the job.
Im just not on the engineer scene, dont know anyone.
Every engineer ive triad has said that they dont like to engineer SOA's on any car because they dont like the high centre of gravity of a 4be.
So they dont even want to look at the job.
Chaos are the only helpful ppl thus far, but will try the other names uve mentioned and c how it goes.

i agree with Screwy_ScrewBall, i would get a second opinion as i did mods to my truck i was told could be certified, went and did them and was told that they couldnt. It was a spoa on an fj40 in QLD during the whole grey change over period.

Ok now I've just finished flicking through the Dec 4wdm and I see NO adds for engineerering...I see plenty of shops saying that they do modifications ans I saw just one add for a shop saying that they did road worthy certs......
Now as far as I know roadworthy certs are pink slips - so that mean squat in validating mods, and I beleive thet anyone can do modifications - that doesn't mean that they'll get them certified - nor that they'll certify DIY stuff.....
Next of I know at least some?/many?/most? of the shops listed - do not (I fairly certain) specifically do the engineering - but they'll orgainise an engineer......
So I still sit here wondering just WTF really is able to certify mods - because I don't see a definate answer above.....
Sorry if that sounds somewhat grumpy - but I just flicked through 324pages to not find an answer.....
edit: Yeah I think some sort of sticky would be a darn fine idea...

obvousily if they say they perform the mods they will know someone who will be able to engineer and pass them. 4wd monthly adds have the numbers that can ANSWER ALL OF YOUR QUESTIONS ;)

RTA NSW list contact details of the engineers (all states) who are authorised (known as engineering signatories) in the document vsi15.pdf. Download from RTA site - go to www.rta.nsw.gov.au and enter signatories in the search box.

Problem with the RTA signitory is that ive been through most of the NSW ones and they dont like to engineer high centre of gravity 4x4's. They can but refuse.
