60 series heart transplant (engine swap) HELP!!!

Project 60 Swap:

Ok here is the run down, I have a 60 series running petrol and LPG, with a trashed body and I have another 60 the on diesel, with a good body, but a really bad bottom end knock.

Now, what I want to do is transplant the petrol engine into the diesel body.

A few questions that I am not sure of,
1. Do I need to change the complete wiring loom?
2. or did Toyota make a ‘generic’ loom that is in ALL 60s, and have just used what is required for different models and left the unused connections taped up?
3. will the engine mounts line up?
4. will I need to change the Gbox and Transfer case?
5. and will the above mounts line up?
6. will the dash need to be changed? Or can the instrument cluster be changed??
7. is there anything that I have forgotten?

Any other suggestions and or ideas on the easiest way to achieve this would be great.

Here some issues ..

2H motor mounts are silgly diferent than 2F motor mounts ..

The 2H tacho get the signal from bellhousing sender .. and the 2F I thought from Coil ..

For the 2H you need to transplant the EDIC control and motor and the glow plugs relay.

Which tranny you use .. in the gasser . ?

when you say slightly different, how much are we talking? grind off the old mounts and make new ones?

i am throwing the 2H away.

as for the Tranny in the gasser, to my knowledge it is all standard running gear.

You should only need to do the dash and engine bay wiring loom.

3. will the engine mounts line up?
Properly not.

4. will I need to change the Gbox and Transfer case?
No, should only need to change the bell housing. Don't know about the input shaft spline count though.

6. will the dash need to be changed? Or can the instrument cluster be changed??
Should only be the instrument cluster I think.

I'm nearly finished my 12ht conversion into what used to be a 3f fj62. The engine mounts are completely different ! I was lucky enough to be given the frount half of the chassis from the donor vehicle, so I cut the diesel mounts off and welded them into position on my chassis. I was also lucky enough to have the wiring loom out of the donor vehicle aswell. The diesel loom is about 3 times the size of the petrol loom (diameter) where it comes through the firewall. The petrol loom is actually simpler than the diesel loom...? If you need a loom for a 3f, you can buy it or swap for something (are you in AUS?). PS the 3f is a cheap engine, and apparently produces more gogo than the 2f....
62 was Petrol, now 12ht ! Body lift, lockers, spring lift, reverse offset rocrawler...? rims, NO RUST, some more stufffff....

the 2F here never come with H55F ( 5 speed ) all come with H42 ( 4 speed )

3F come with H55F that it's the same that you found in some 2H ( as mine )

In the 2H you have only one line that come from the tank .. I'm not sure if you need returning line from the gasser engine to the tank ( I thought yes )

yes it means you use the same tranny.

from my experience all 6 cyl 60 series trannies will work, no matter if they're petrol or diesel.

interesting about the 2h having completely different engine mounts. when we did the H - 2F swap in my brothers troopy, the chassis mounts lined up, we only had to change one of the rubber mounts to make up the difference.

the 3f is cheap for a reason. it's a boat anchor. they are practically a detroked 2f, so they rev a bit harder, but produce less torque (thereby sacrificing the only thing a 2f had going for it).

this is good news as it means less work, is there anyway that i can check, ie measure distance between point X and the engine mount, before i start stripping?

it's not that great a news, because it was in a 40, and was with the older generation of diesel.

you could always measure the distance back from the front crossmember to the chassis mount on both sides? then measure the height and angle of the mount if they are the same.

we kinda lucked it with the 45, we didn't measure anything, we just prayed alot

Pyro, there will be a lot of heartache swapping a diesel over to petrol, the wiring is completely different, It will drive you mad trying to sort it out, then everything from the petrol cars engine bay will need to swap over.

Then when your done, youve got a cruiser that doesnt go any better than a deisel, uses 50% more fuel, and no-one will want to touch your home brew cruiser so it is next to worthless

I have been through all this before and currently

You can pick up 2h diesels for $400-600 and it will drop straight in. there is 2 on ebay right now for less than what I stated. You can get a complete rebuild kit for a 2h for less than $800. I wouldnt waste my time with the 2f
