4.2L Turbo Deisel

Post by santaz351 »

HI all
I'm looking at purchasing a SWB GQ with a 4.2L turbo deisel with 445,000 km on the clock. Is this a lot of km for the motor or will it have heaps left in it? Its been serviced regulary every 5000km

Cheers

if its serviced well its got plenty of life in the motor, only thing that may need attention is the injectors and injector pump, but this should be evident when driven by the smoke

How long has the turbo been on it?

445 is a lot of k's and you need to think of resale value in the future.
Don't forget, it's not just the motor thats done the k's, its every joint/bearing/hinge/linkage/bush on the entire car.

Also if it shats itself you wont be sitting down for a long time after paying for a rebuild. If it's cheap enough you should be right but if he wants strong money for it I'd keep looking personally.

Mines got 510,000 k's on it, so they're a very reliable motor. But it would want to be cheap with that many k's on it and yes your resale will be minimal too.

i have been told that the 4.2's can get to 1 million km's with regular servicing. i dont know how much truth is in it though
