Paint is a small cost involved if you want a good job.. The difference between a really nice paint job and a sh!tter isn't so much the paint itself but the preparation of the surface. Rubbing takes skill and lots of time. Labour is the biggest cost part of repainting a car.
If you wanted you could respray it yourself with enamel for under $50 or use good two pack and prepare it well for about $400 (plus labour) plus rust and dent repairs.

yeh i couldnt see the point in getting a decent paint job on something that gets scracthed and dinted everytime i take it out and it didnt come up that bad with spray paint. if u pay to get a decent paint job u wont wanna take it anywhere.

I got four mates around offered drinks and food, handed them sandpaper and a rubbing block spent the Saturday getting the surface sorted and fixing little dents and scratches best I could.

Then the following weekend took it to my Dads place, washed it, wax and grease remover, then cleaned over with thinners and masked it all up and painted it Orange...

Paint cost $48 for 4L spent about another $20 on cleaning gear and preparation, my dad already has a quality paint gun and air compressor so I didn't have to spend the money there. So it all depends on the time you want to put in and how many mates you have..... :P They job wasn't to bad and I didn't worry about it getting scratched up as I did the work and it didn't cost much. I learnt a little more about preparation and painting and will take on to my next job when I spray my Hard top, this time I will have access to a spray booth which will be alot better.
