GU ute suspension

can u go 3 inch lift on a gu ute coil cab, without doing panhards, break lines, castor correction?
and are gq springs and shocks the same as gu's?

I guess another option is 2 inch suspension and 2 inch body lift but i did not really want to go refabricating mounts for bull bars and scrub bars etc.
My old Lux was a peice of cake to body lift, but the GU looks a lot harder. Basically i need to pick someones brain about the job before i start. My ambition is to run 35'' tyres with out scrubbing.
Keeping in mind im in a remote part of NT and parts are not easily accessible, i just want some good feedback before i go pulling spanners.

I have an 04 TD6 wagon and have an Old man emu lift extra heavy duty springs 2" lift and LTR shocks and run 315/75/16 (35") xterrains on factory alloys and get very little scrub. The reason why it will scrub is not because of the lift its to do with the wheel offset.Tommy wrote:So has anyone done this before ?

so to answer your question you need to do a body lift on a gu unless you want to. maybe try searching a few rigs on the members section or the bible and you will see you dont need to run a body lift or a massive lift on gu because the wheel arches are quite large anyway.

Oh right, thats good to know. Being a ute clearance at the rear is no problem as i can play with the tray height easy enough it was just the front i was worried about.
So only a 2 inch lift is required to run 35'' 's ?
Did you still need to play around with your Castor break lines etc ?
Did you notice much difference in fuel consumotion / speed and handling once you put the big rubber under mate ?

i just had the ome castor bushes no need for plates.
handling is still good as i kept my sway bars and wouldnt bother taking them off again.
fuel consumption is ok a bit more but i have done things to tune it it up and now run 4.6 gears.

i have 3inch lift in my GU1V wagon,no extended brake hoses, std panhards only moved the axles over 10mm,but i do run 2deg caster bushs which make it drive a lot better,i also have 315/75/16 mtzs on 8.5 inch -25 alloys had to remove front mud flaps to clear them on full lock turns but cab chassis have the series one flares which have more room

I have a 2002 GU coil cab with 3" lift from Pro Comp. Standard brake lines, standard panhards, however to run 35's, i have installed radius arm spacers from Marks to gain the required clearance and also removed my mud flaps.
It was tracking quite bad and a bit flighty on the steering so in went some Ride Pro 3 deg caster correction bushes (Smithies) and it is now much better to drive at freeway speeds.

Dazza and rvh are spot on. I have a GQ and GU ute and have found that the after market springs are the same for GU GQ though the GQ is lighter and drives shit when i swapped the lift out of the gu in to gq. I used washers to space the radius arms forwards on the GU and could leave the mud flaps on with 35's running 3 inch susp lift, cheers
ive got a GU ute leaf sprung rear, ive currently got a 4 inch pro comp kit which is useless. we could only put 2 inch leafs with 240 mm shackles which has worked but has no slop. I have been told by a few that i cant have bigger softer leafs and some say that i can, any ideas? without coiling the rear or doing a leaf over!
