I did it. I bought a Rangie. Everyone here is laughing at me. I probably deserve it too, I know jack about em. Its a 92 RR "Sherwood" limited edition. 3.9 & 4spd auto. Absolutely standard. Now, where did I put that grinder.....

Jeeez, you musn't know too much then! I think a sherwood had leather and wood inside and some flash (not) badging. Maybe different wheels too?
I seriously know bugger all about these things, but I will learn, and as I apply this to my Rangie, I will keep this section updated.

Well after a shake down run (to Broken Hill and back, got 13.8l per 100km!) I decided it was time to start the mods.
I want to stay away from a bodylift and get the clearance I want by modding the suspension. The boys at Tough Dog only list a 35mm coil for the Rangie so I spoke with Simon about my options. We decided to try a set of coils after much deliberation, and the results were pretty wild.
The front came up 135mm (just over 5 inches) and the rear came up about 100mm. A set of spacers was then fitted to the rear to level things out. We also fit a set of pin to eye converters and put a set of Tough Dog Foam Cell shocks out of a GU in the rear, and some 80 series units in the front.
After an initial drive, we found the front too firm and tonight will be trying another set of front coils, and hopefully losing around 15mm or so out of the ride height. This will improve the castor and give the right rake.
I have ordered some braided stainless brakelines, should have them in a couple of days, so no ramping till they are in!
A couple of other issues that need to be addressed;
* The centre crossmember is fouling the front shaft, we will fab something up for that.
*The rear A-frame joint is past it's use by date and close to binding, so we will have a look at that also. Have not ruled out an entire re-design of the rear link set up.
*We wont deal with the castor until the ride height has been sorted, but it should be no real drama.
* Front shaft will probably be needing some attention as well.
Will post some pics soon of the current ride height. Am also looking for some flares if anyone has a second hand set??
Just needs a guard chop now.
Hopefully tonight the front will sit down a bit lower.

The rangie looks great - but why no BL??? Ok, bit of an update. Got the slightly softer coils in the front and it came down around 18mm, which is about what i wanted. I have just taken delivery of my braided extended brakelines which wont go on till Monday now. Early next week I will drop the car to Simon at Tough Dog who will do some castor calculations and see what we will do there. I want to be able to offer a corrected bush if we can come up with something suitable, just to make it easy for punters to fit rather than go to the trouble of machining balls or the expense of cranked arms.
I have dropped the middle crossmember 15mm to clear the front shaft for now but we will perhaps look at a fabricated crossmember to offer in the kit. I have a slight vibe through the car at slow speed, we will see what happens after castor correction and then tackle the vibe issue. It may be as simple as new uni's as the current ones look a bit ordinary.
