DISC rear ?????
Gday All
ive been looking at doing a disc rear on my 4runner, i have a mate in a datto 1200 with a shortened lux diff, with skyline r31 rear calipers and rotors. craft diffs in grandville do the brackets to suit the calipers. apparently only 4 stud
i put the rotors up on the mill to machine to suit 6 stud etc. upon doing so im not going to be able to fit the f#@kers onto my axle flanges, even if i skim the axle flange, there will be minimal meat around the axle studs.
Is any one Running a disc rear set up on there runners/lux's? ive done a search and the info didnt really help, ive cross referenced the dba book and im not sure whats suitable.
Whats works?

all i can find is people saying leone or earlie subaru calipers with gq rotors there is a huge size diffrence between the std subaru rotors and gq rotors.. i saw no mention of where to get brackets, or patterns for caliper mounts without spending 1000+ from snake etc? just wanted to know what some one who actually has it n there car and what their running. i know about the master cylinder etc.
cheers

I have run the disc rear setup on a couple of my rigs and for me it worked tops. I got a whole heap of mounting backets cut of which they are all sold. I gave the design file to roc70y off this forum ( i've since lost the design on my computer) and he might be able to get some cut up for you. This design was for the subaru and gq setup.

I put LJ70 fronts discs and calipers onto the rear of my LJ70.
For handbrake I am using a needle valve which locks the front discs 'on', release and they are 'off'. No cable or drums.
I did try pajero discs and calipers on the rear....terrible set-up.
As for Subaru calipers, I understand they can be used for handbrake too, but I have yet and if ever to go down this path.

I've made enough of these for people.... another couple of options for calipers are Nissan maxima rears, Primera 4WD rears they are all same style infact same mounts for alot of them the disk you want is a 154 code for the early solid disk hilux's if its going on a surf you'll need to machine the center hole out and the axle flange down to the tin backing gard since you've got access to machine tools get a profile cut out of 10 mm and take between 1.5mm and 2.5mm on the brake posts, depends on your calipers thats the only major difference between them... the only other thing you need to do is modify the cable arms on the calipers... from memory its a 35mm arm and there you have it

why do you say this?
i used these on my toyota lux diffs for 6 years and never had a problem.
cheers mark
Mud4b/ OPT, Cheap rates, Not cheap work. Search Opt- option offroad on facebook. Call or Sms 0439609525.. Sunshine coast, Eudlo, 4554.
Perhaps mine were a little shagged when I bought them, looking back I strongly suspect. The handbrake kept failing and when braking the whole system felt unbalanced.mud4b wrote:gotoy wrote:
