5 link rear on an 80
thinking about doing this mod to my 80 any of you fellas done this at all and would you have photos to post to give me an idea of what to do, cheers...
80 series, 3" lift, 35" Wranglers, Exhaust, Sliders, Custom Dents.
mate if you are wanting more flex out of your front end try a xlink
they are made by dobbin engernering
here are some pics of my 40 wich is running 80 series runnin gear , i was not happy with the lack of flex from the front end
its running standard coils long travel shocks in the rear and standards in the front at the moment i going to fit longer shocks in the front
when i check full flex without the shocks in it needs a shock that will extend to about 28 ''

Its because most people (word of mouth) think that a 5 link in the front can be unstable, and diffucult to setr up on the rd......sniper wrote:I have been trying to find someone to do a 5link in the front of mine for sooooo long. Have contemplated the x-link but would rather a 5 link.
no one wants to do it to an 80
The x link is fantastic and i have seen both crankys crank link (using a control arm flip) and truckzillers (control arms under the diff) in action and its will put you in front of anyone else. Forget the 5 link in the front and go for the xlink....
Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times
Thats no different to a radius arm really. Jeeps run it in the front but only on one link i think.Tapage wrote:Somethink like ..

On the TJ they run that setup on both sides (but with the upper "short" link is triangulated)
This is a XJ jeep or WJ setup .. but they (this is a rusty's offroad setup)
Or another example from Nth Degree Mobility (their setups were very well regarded as being stable and quite flexable)
And certainly not lacking in Flex once installed.

yep I have looked atthe x-link very hard. Even had Chad show me his truck at nissan trials (thakx mate )
I still personally leaned towards the 5 link, but it is seeming that the x-link may have to safice. No one wants to touch a 5link on an 80. I have researched it, and I do know there on road manners are inexistant runin a 5link.

How .. if you took the front half complete to every bush, and bracket a that system is from an X link as compared to that I reckon that it would not be that much different.udm wrote:the point is, its got way too many parts that can f^&up and leave you strandedlove_mud wrote: That is what is called a COMPLETE suspension setup. Not just a set of springs and shocks.
Now add in all the upgrades that the rear suspension needs to cope with the massively freed up front and you will get an equally complex setup .. but without the skidplate.
If you want reliability leave it stock ...
