50mm bodylift
50mm bodylift
can u use 50 mm square tube for this without buying a kit ?
stockman wrote:so nothing needs doing excepta bit of work to stick?? also with this and 2'' lift springs allow me to fit 31''s or 30''s
2" Body lift (with or without spring lift) should allow for a 31, or even some 32's - i know someone with some 32x10.5 Mongrels under a sierra with stock springs and a 2" body lift... However, there is some tyre to body and tyre to springs rubbing going on.

Stockman,
Read this thread - it details all the work you will need to do to your sierra as part of the body lift.

thanks greg whatsort a zooka ya got .. ill need a rockhopper gears if i fit 31s wont i do u know what there worth and would it be worth getting lower diff gears can u tell me what a 89 jx diff centres are ???
redzook wrote:where u located?
pm overkill an ask him about prices on rockhoppers
your diff gears should be 3.7
i wouldnt worry bout changin them if u go with a rockhopper
I live in ouse tasmania , do u think it would just be better to change the diff gears to lower ratios , thattll proberley help with the daily driving to wont it?? because the hopper only works when your in 4x4 dont it.......
hoppers will lower ya gears enough for 31" on and off road driving. only need diff gears if going huge tyres. my body lift is 50mm box section, with inside crush tubes on the bolted points. most 3.7 ratios have a 2 pinion front, which is a pain for lockers, so 3.9 may be wise, as this ratio ,from narrow track 1.3, will bolt straight in. I dont think you will have a big problem driving the 31's, I did for long time with only a 1 litre zook. using t-case from early one litre zooks will gain you 12% if hoppers too dear...christover

As a general rule, you could probably say that the stock gearing to tyre size ratio is pretty close to its limits when the car comes off the factory line - and most people want to go slower than this.
Therefore, what ever percentage you increase your tyre size, make sure you do at least the same with your gearing
i.e. stock tyre size = 26, new tyre size of 31 = a 19% increase... so it would be ideal to increase your gearing by at least that much for both on and offroad...
A series 1 hopper will increase high range (on road) by 11%, and offroad by 70% or so... a series 3 hopper will do even more
as a comparisson - my tyres have been increased 31%, and my gearing has been increased to 372% of what it was before... i.e. series 3 hopper and 5.12 diffs...

Bah humbug .. I drive 35's with just a 1.6 (worked a little) and a 4.16 T/case .. sure I would like lower but it's still quite useable .. I actually find it more useable with the 35's than I did when I was running 31's mostly due to lack of throttle surge (Small quick reving motor and low gears over rough terrain you can get a bit "bouncy") ..
But then again I am a bit of a mud pig .. but rock sure a fun to .. perhaps time for a rock block or some form of doubler for me
