They dont meet the new emissions standards. Call a few dealers, they may have some still in stock.

RIP to the TD42 engine, 1988 - 2007. Nissan's best Diesel engine for the Patrol ever

I am lucky to have a TD42 in my GQ, so i will be looking after it and rebuilding it if needed.

I looked on the web recently and it still listed the GU ute as TD42. This was in the last three months.

P.S. Isn't there a V8 diesel coming out?

Whatever they throw at us will be direct injection. I'd be happy with a proven engine like they have in their highway rigs: http://www.udtrucks.com/product/lightguts.htm. Bling - high HP - engines which aren't dependable are pretty much useless if not dangerous for many of us. That is why we all loved the TD 4.2: bloody slow but also bloody dependable.

Yes and all the complications like high tech fuel pumps in the tank which cost the earth and injectors which cost as much as a twin carb. Then the electronics............stop! I`M SOUNDING OLD :D

TD 42 is like a simple Landrover engine .........only better built and oil tight. I don`t see as Nissan need to compete directly with Toyota. Patrol is usually half the price of Landcruiser unless that changes.

i do hope nissan never compete with toyota, i like the old td42 as it it a proven workhorse, nissan has taken a step backwards with the 3.0 td and the only option now that is any good is the thirsty 4.8

Yes the ZD30 is the worst motor Nissan ever put out, while the RD28T was underpowered, it still managed to boogy the GU along with its Electronic injection pump and inter cooler, chip it and get a few more KW's out of her. the ZD30 is just too problematic, even without a chip they blow up, so putting a chip into her is just a waste of time.

I hope that Nissan look at improving on their engines, a 4 cylinder Diesel just don't cut it pushing a GU along, its too heavy, you need a 6 cylinder at least, straight 6 would be better to as its easier to turbo.

TB48 is a good engine despite its fuel hungry nature, its built off the same block as teh TB42, just improved with DOHC and a few tweaks. would love to chi it and see how it goes. Heard a few horror stories about the TB48 and LPG, hope they aren't true, i would like to see Nissan put out a Dual Fuel or Straight Gas version of the TB48, would make it a big seller,

A mate's dad burnt a hole in a piston with only 1700 km on the clock ( brand spankers ). He's back in a landcruiser now. Extremely unfortunate on both accounts
