Dual / Extra cab Chop Planning List

Post by CWBYUP »

So its time I pulled my finger out and started planning everything I need for the cab chop on the GQ.

The list so far,

- spare body and chassis
- work out where to chop in reltion to the body mounts
- chop keeping any panels i still need in one piece
- work out if I'm going to use a ute back wall, back of wagon or just sheet
- cut weld etc
- paint
- sort tray and fuel tanks

Just wondering if any one wants to add something to the list that I may have forgotten or any other ideas that may help.

Cheers Nick

you need a tape measure Nick, measure it and mark it all out, then measure it again and double check, then measure another 15 times to be sure.after measuring 15 times you should feel confident enough to attack it with the grinder. you will need a good supply of 1mm thick cutting discs, a punch and flange tool will come in handy too. there are some good recent threads in build ups with good pics, have a look at coightys 80 chop, berrettas GQ chop and my GQ chop, im sure there will be heaps more if you search.

when i did mine, on a shorty body, i measured so many times it wasnt funny, i then made my mark ad cut 50mm rearward or that line so i had some meat left to play with, then slowly made my final cut,

you gotta work out how your gunna brace the back wall/join, where seat belt holes are if your going duel cab, and just take it slow

Is an engineers certificate required to make it legal, as im thinking of cutting a 60 into an extra cab for winch comps, there is a bloke by the name of Jason wileman with one done, id like to find out more info on. Pgs 4wd do cuts for about 5,500 6,000 which is a bit steep but probably worth it.
