Pitman arm vit PS

yes ive searched

Im getting parts together for vit powersteering and a little unsure on pitman arms and connectivity to draglinks
just trying to get a clear picture.
Bazooked said he needed to get a tapered sleeve made up to make the ZR21 tarago pitman arm fit his draglink.

What have others done? I know lots of people have vit PS..

if this is so, bazooked why do you run a tarago pitman?

Have you both used tarago pitmans? if not what have you used?

I use a vit arm, difference is vit arm is near flat and a tarago pittman arm is like a 2" dropped vit pittman arm.......I think

I use vit pitman arm as it came with the kit i bought. Didnt have an issue with it and connected straight to sierra draglink.

I've built a couple with a vit arm, but the clearance between the ball joint thread and the chassis can get close.

A drop arm would lessen bumpsteer too.

does anyone have a pic of what angle the draglink sits at with vit pitman?

bazooked, can the tarago pitman fit straight up, as i dont have the correct tools anymore to make a tapered sleave.

searching zuwharrie forum and saw a pick of the vit pitman arm

crawled under the zook today and saw that this might cause some issues.
can someone with a vit arm tell me if they have had any prob with it hitting, although if it clears once it clears all the time as it doesnt move with suspension travel, correct?

I assume you mean pitman arm hitting the tie rod.

A) bumpstop spacers

B) Vitara pitman arm (with vitara power steer)

C) move steering box forward

Any one or combination of can fix the problem.

I actually got the last of the tarago pitman sleeves off Bazooked, the one in your first pic. It worked great till I RUF'd with 2 inch lifted rears. I ended up getting a calmini dropped arm to counter the resulting bump steer. So if you can wait til I'm back in Aus (8/10) you can have it and the tarago pitman for what I paid plus postage. PM me if your keen.

update:

powersteering arrived from offroadrama! thanks chief

went to get some steel plate today, 135x100x10 which i picked up for $3.
only realised when i got home that he cut it to 125 not 135...have to go back now

also picked up the countersunk bolts and I'm gayer than aids! today, 15.30 for all 6.
now just need the pitman arm and sleeve from hybrid and a pump off something, and lines made up.

bazooked do you have the correct measurements for the diagram below, as ive tried printing it out but comes out alot smaller, and would rather get it spot on. Ive tried measuring off the screen and thats where i got the 135x100x10 from.

The size of the plate is 135 x 100mm so if this is what you got from yourt screen measuremants then they should be pretty spot on. I printed the template straight from that post and it came out the correct size for me.

can you use the tarago pitman arm and balljoint in the zook or can you lower the steering box so it don't hit with the vit arm as i am doing this very soon and don't want to spend mega bucks on the pitman if i don't have to and will sleaving be leagle on road [sorry about the spelling]

It looks like ya have solved all ya issues, but if you have any more questions ask away.
Pitman arm was very close to the chassis, but as you say, it doesn't move, so once its right ts right.
A drop arm would be nice, and you could always use vit arm to get it going, then change to a drop arm later.

it seems alot of people have used standard arms with the vit box so i guess you can.
Also i dont think you can use the tarago arm with standard balljoint, hence the sleave needed.

if u need a drop pitman arm to suit the vit box. low range or trail gear makes a drop pitman arm to suit the vit box and sierra/samarui steering arms.

Honestly the vit pitman arm fits just under the chassis so there is no reason to stop you from using the vit arm to get on the road and shange later if need be.
