Hey, just wondering if my thermostat is stuffed. How long should a TD42 take to warm up after sitting overnight?
I let mine idle for a couple of minutes before I start driving and it takes at least 10 minutes of driving after that before the temp gauge gets to normal, even on a 20 degree morning. I think maybe the thermostat is stuck open? How long do other peoples take to warm up?

TD42 thermostat
sorry to hijack,
my engine gets quite warm, sits on half most of the time, goes to 2/3 when pushing up hills. its a TD42 no turbo. just had my rad recored with a 3 core, replaced the water pump, thermatic clutch unit and brand new coolant (full flush by removing the drain bung, thats hard work btw)
Its still not getting and cooler, question is, could the thermostat be buggered to the point that its not opening enough? could i remove the thermostat all together to see if it runs cooler? would it do much damage to do that?

i dare say u have one of those touchy nissan temp guages ... mine was the same .... buy an infrared temp lazer and check your engine

Gday Cam, mines pretty much the same on the temp guage. After I put the turbo and pyro on the temp gauge hasn't moved (still half most of time) and the pyro shows max of 400 (time to up the fuel). As already stated the gauges are a bit over sensitive.....
PS I've already changed thermostat, replaced fan oil, flushed and cleaned raditator, etc.
Back on topic mines the same (good 10 km's driving to get temp gauge moving), but thats just around town, not freeway / heavy load.

i changed mine yesterday and when i took the old one out it was stuck a little bit open it also took ages to warm up and the guage used to fluctuate between 1/4 and 1/2 all the time now with the new thermostat it warms up in about 2klm and the guage sits about 2-3 mm below half rising to half then the fan cuts in and cools it down to 2-3mm below half again then the fan cuts out where before the fan would stay enguaged till the guage was at or a little below 1/4 which took a while to get to and i thought a waste of ponies turning the fan
