GQ brake upgrade using GU parts

Overheard someone at a club meeting last night mention fitting GU twin spot brake callipers and rotors to the front end of a GQ. My question is, how easy would this be to do?

later model GQ's have twin piston calipers also!
I believe it a common brake upgrade! Not sure if there is any difference
with the discs?
They might install slotted rotors and the twin pot units?
Should just bolt up easy as!

I would assume then that the twin spots carried over from the late model GQs in to the GU which would mean it will be easy.

you will need different discs / rotors, as the early GQ ones are narrower than the late model GQ and GU.

GU rotors and calipers are larger than late GQ.
You will need 16 inch rims to fit GU brakes.

Isnt there a large number of GQ's running GU fronts with only 15"rims?
I thought all GU's came with twin piston front brakes.

Gu front calipers will not fit onto GQ hub assembly as they are a much larger unit bolt hole to bolt hole... This is from taking measurments from a 3lt 2002 model and 1989 GQ. If you would like to give it a go I have 2 front near new 2002 calipers for sale.

OK, so what is actually required. Obviously GU rotors and callipers but any actual modification/fabrication/ drilling or cutting. Is it 100% that 15 inch rims won't fit over the calliper.

I thought that only efi petol patrols GQ&GU had the twin spot larger calipers as my turbo deisel gu can run 15inch wheels no probs!
I may wrong.

The calipers bolt onto the hub.

The GQ single pot caliper bolt patern is between 13 - 14 cm apart and the GU is 19 cm's apart.

Yes definatly have twin pots that came of a 2002 model 3lt GU.

im pretty sure the RD28's have twin piston front brakes andf you can run 15" rims with them no dramas, im pretty sure its the petrols that are larger again,

are u talking about RD28 GU or GQ. cause the RD28 GQ were single, i know i been working on one the last month doing V8 and we looked at the brakes, they are single

yep... you got it. GU.

Im running that setup right now with 15x8''rims in a GQ.

Ruffy is also right in that you wont fit 15'' rims over the big GU petrol calipers without massaging them with a 40grit flap disc :twisted: ;)

I have GU 4.5 and run 15's without any mods. But if you are wanting to run alloys you will have to grind.
