disco help!

disco help!
hey guys, went to check out a 91 tdi disco this afternoon. guy failed to mention in the ad that the car doesnt drive.
now the problem seems to be the clutch. the guy who owns the car has no idea about anything.
heres what i could see, the clutch fails to engage at all, theres no pressure whatsoever, its just a free playing pedal.
now there is plenty of fluid in the clutch resevoir so im guessing its not a split hose anywhere.
the question is, does this mean that it needs a whole new clutch? or could something have come loose to stop it engaging??
and if it is a clutch, then how much am i looking at to replace it?
thanks all!

clutch
Hard to say without seeing the vehicle.
But they do sometomes wear through the clutch throw-out fork... the shaft from the slave cylinder wears through the clutch fork and whamo no pressure at all and no clutch..
$$ to fix I am unsure of best to check your local LR guys.
hope this helps

It sounds like this car is for sale.
I'd be running the other way
If he forgot to tell you it doesn't drive, did he also forget to tell you about the horrible grinding noise it made before it stopped?
If you really want it then I wouldn't be offering any more than wrecker value for it.

Land Rover Discovery series 1 V8
Everyone has gone for worse case scenario - my disco is auto so I don't really know about that (open myself to flaming!!) but on my series when the pedal went to the floor it was almost always clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder - both are easy fixes. Mind you I would get him to fix it first or pay next to nothing for it..
I was being generous but yeah an early 200tdi like that shouldnt be more than 2k unless its perfect.andrew e wrote:you mean sub 2k! it isn't even a 300tdi, or the update for that matter.Loanrangie wrote:Unless he is asking sub 5k for it walk away, its too old to be low k even if its ok now it wont take long for it to give trouble.
Add in 2.5k for another box and clutch including install.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
I havent driven 1 but my mates 93 tdi manual disco seemed to pull away better than i expected and that was before i had mine to judge it by.nottie wrote:just out of curiosity what are the 200tdis like with a manuel box? To drive and such that is.
