I am looking at fitting 32X9.5 Simex Centipedes on 7" steel rims to my 83 4 dr,but disco rims seem to be hard to come by,anyone have any ideas as to reasonably priced rims with enough offset and where they can be obtained and also the best place to buy the Centipedes,as some places here in Sydney want an arm and a leg,whilst others seem to be selling them for lower than the retail price.

Cheapest place I found for Simex was ARB Traction 4 at Artarmon. They might just whack them onto some rims for you, but for the full job its about $20ea fit/bal.

try pro-comp shops.

Better going 15" synrasia white steelies, much cheaper than Disco rims. You can give them a coat of paint if you hate the white powdercoat on them.

16"are too expensive even second hand these days. Vogue alloys are just as expensive but you can't modify alloys. Bit of a bummer that is.

I have found some Defender 130 6 1/2" rims with what looks like a lot more offset than standard Rangie rims.Has anyone used these wheels before ? IE do they have enough offset to allow use of larger tyres?

i havent used the 130 ones but landy steel rims are quite strong, and the 130 rims do have quite a bit more offset so you should be fine

If the still scrub (which i wouldn't have thought they would ) adjust your steering stops

offsets go like this;

Disco I......................16"x7.0"x33mm offset
Def 110 (steel).........16"x5.5"x33mm offset
Def 130 (steel).........16"x6.5"x20.6mm offset
Post '68 series LWB.16"x5.5"x33mm offset

The 130 wheels with the holes around the centre are a stronger wheel than the others, (same wheel as used on the Pommy army Land Rovers) and often don't have a safety bead on the rim, so should in theory be only used with a tube.

Eh...Rick130...I wsa running the 16x5.5 D110 ones and they had a 22mm offset

I'm also certain of this since I foolishly wanted to balance my swampers on one of the new digital machines and it told me everything (even the weight!).

Theres a stack of different wheels L/R have used over the years in different markets, and no way are those few numbers I typed in any way a definitive list, just the ones I've collected.

BTW, those D110 figures are for wheel pt. # NRC 7578 ('85 Aust. 110 County)
and the D130 ones are for wheel pt. # ANR 4583 (tubeless), ANR 5593 (tube) ('98 Aust. 130)
I suspect the Disco wheel is pt. # NTC 5193,

The point of the post was to give Lowranger some numbers to make a decision regarding his wheels.
He felt that the D130 rims appear to have more offset than the Rangie rims or Disco rims he was also considering, something that in my limited L/R experience I would agree with (and I'll include 110 rims in that), so I posted the numbers I had.

I will ring Pro Comp during the week and check out the cost and see if I can find out how much offset their rims have.The 130 rims I have found aren't real cheap at $130 each second hand,but with that much offset they should do the job.

I use 130 rims for 33's road tyres on my disco. They have a bees dick more offset than standard steel wheels and with only 32's you won't have to adjust your steering stops. At $130 each thats a good price if there in good nick.

I paid $150 for new ones but they are really hard to get

pro-comp do several different offsets. if the prices get near $200 then i would consider customs. they only cost $200 each
16 x 8 and VERY strong.
my next wheels will have "holes or voids" so i can pressure wash the brakes and the inside of the wheel for maintenance and balance issues.
