Elec primer pump on 1hd-ft ?

Post by mozza »

Gday all, I have installed a 4psi pusher pump on the wagon to assist in fuel filter changes , i have a cav filter set up before factory filter and when changing either i turn it on to prime both filters and it works a treat so you dont have to crank the primer 1000 times.....
Just wondering if any of the diesel techs out there know if i run it at all times will it cause any damage to the inj pump ?
Cheers for any feedback.... mozza

A low pressure high volume supply pump will be ok as long as it doesnt restrict the fuel system. There is quie a lot of fuel returned to the tank as an aid for cooling the injector pump.

Cheers Dzltech, didnt think there would be a problem but it sure helps changing filters ,I replace the $6 cav every 3000k and the factory @ 10000-15000ks ,will run it all the time for a few days and see what happens, have mounted a switch in the cab and another under the bonnet to help when changing filters..
Thanks again Mozza

I had a facet style pump to assist pump a canola blend and found it couldn't keep up with the required flow and led to more problems that it solved..

It would pump diesel okay so I imagine would be fine in a stock setup, but I'd be cautious about leaving it off and relying on the lift pump to suck the fuel through the valving inside the pump, AND the CAV. Why not leave it on all the time when the engine is running and allow it to provide the lift pump with a few PSI of pressure? They're designed to run continuously.
