gu engine transplant ideas

Post by adamj1300 »

i have a 2.8 gu nearing 300kms on the clock & am getting a bit tired of the lack of power, its ok unloaded but when loaded up its gutless

i know the most commen ideas of of an of engine swaps are the 4.2 td or the 6.5 chev, the 4.2 needs some tweaking to get some action out of it & the 6.5 is expensive for a old design advertage design engine

id love to hear of other possiblities of, or what other people have used
i know ford released 4.2 in the 01 & 02 f trucks with a Mechanical fuel pump

or has anyone ever done the cross over with using the toyota 12hdt in a patrol,

on the 4wd mounthly forum there is a guy putting a 6.0 power stroker in to a navara but thats a work in process still

i know it would be easiest to just sell but im not to keen on parting with it

any sensable help, feedback or suggestions would be greatly apreaciated?
thanks

What are the limitations of your conversion?

is fuel economy an issue for you? if not then, you can drop a 350 chevy in for pretty cheap.

TD42 will give you good economy but you'll probably have to swap the gear box too.

I'd say best idea would be sell the 3.0 and buy something with a 4.2 diesel or 4.8 petrol in it already.

l just stuck a holden 5 litre into my GQ shorty and all up the mod cost me around $5000 to the completely finished stage. That includes having some one wire it up and weld in new engine mounts. I will assume that the 2.8 GU you are running already has the 4.6 diff centres (which is what lm now running in my shorty). My 4by now has plenty of get up and go even with the 35's l have on at th moment. Im extremely happy with the power its putting out and it was a cheap enough mod to do. I performed this mod beacause l drowned the 4.2 diesel and busted conrods etc... and it was far cheaper (with more power to boot), tp put in the 5 litre

the 1HD-FTE would be my first choice due to it being a directinjection with a macanical fuel puimp as being a apprentice diesel fitter dies help, but the idea of putting as toyota engine in to a nissan gets a few eye brow raisings.
