ct20 turbo spec's

Post by Thomo81 »

Can any one tell me the spes's on how much side play ct20 turbo's should
have. Also for intrest's sake what rev's should you expect to get full boost. i'm running 10 psi and it only gets to this at close to 3000rpm. this is on a 2L engine.

I didn't have a gauge but I thought it to be about 1400.

2l or 2lt ?

what gear/speed is the vechile in when checking the boost ?

it can also be caused by lack of fuel. or intake restriction.

Never owned a 2L-T but suppose could be full boost @ 2000 rpm or pretty close.

Tapage, you are lucky not to have owned 2lt

I ran mine at 12psi@2000.

To be honest, adjusting the fuel pump gave the most power increase.

The engine is a 2l with the ct20 turbo of a 2lt on it. I'm thinking that the excessive lag thet i'm getting may be caused by excessive side play at the compressor wheel.

lag is not the same as lacking boost in the low rpm.

if its always done this since you fitted the turbo my guess is its lacking fuel. you can't wind the fuel up a lot unless you like cop attracting smoke clouds when full throttle at low boost.
also the motor probably doesn't have the oil spray bar which cools the pistons so it would pay not to wind the fuel up to much.

if you really want to pump fuel in then get the pump off a 2lt. it has the boost comp/aneroid etc so you don't blow heaps of smoke when in off boost & full throttle.

imho the ct20's don't to go well with high boost (they heat the hell out of the air) and seeing as your not putting in the fuel you might as well just keep the boost down to stock levels.

The engine does have oil squirters as i rebuild the engine my self. It's intercooled and has been tuned to 560 deg and always runs a pyro.
The turbo seems to have excessive side play as the compressor wheel nearly touches the compressor housing. Does this modle of turbo always have this much play as i have no others to compare it to, and no spec's to go on?
