Steering Play while driving

Post by unbreakable »

I've noticed lately that there is a bit of play in the steering of my hilux (LN106) About a quarter of a turn while driving on the highway. It has a return to centre on it but I think its had its day. Does this mean I need a new power steering unit, new bushes or just a new RTC.

Yeah check both balls in j and pitman arms look while a mate turns wheel left to right pitman arms are about 150 gennuine and ripco will be dearer as they just re-sell a gennuine item. Is the draglink moving on the balls can adjust them but if there stuff you'll need to buy the new end inserts about 50 a end from ripco then check tierod ends also may pay to adjust box if it has exessive play in there look at the steering shaft in relation to pitman arm movement you'll soon see if it needs it. also llok to see if the steering arms where they bolt to the swivel hub are loose had this happen to mine when it was rinning std toyota arms :?

Drag link ends may need cup and spring kits and pitman arm ball worn & boomerang arm ball worn. I sell reco units with new balls as well as new and used.

Adjusted the steering box last night and she runs straight and true now.

There i still a little play from the drop drag link onto the steering arm and I checked the tie rod ball joints for play. By grabbing the tie rod and twisting it back and forward there is a lottle movement but I think this is normal due to the rubber bushes bewteen the ball joint and the steering arm.

Does anyone else suffer from this?
